XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Mitsubishi GALANT VR4 4WD (McPHERSON) 1988-1992

Mitsubishi’s Group A programme turned the E38A Galant VR4 into one of the most technically ambitious four-wheel-drive turbos of the late 1980s – and then road-tuned the suspension soft enough to pass homologation scrutiny, leaving a car that rolls and pushes through fast corners once the 4G63T finds its pace. The McPherson front struts on the production VR4 were calibrated for compliance over circuit geometry, and the difference shows under any sustained hard use.

The Circuit Master coilover for the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 4WD removes that factory softness. Developed for sustained circuit lap-time work, it brings adjustable damping and corrected ride height to a chassis that rarely appears in tuning catalogues – leaving most owners to improvise with ill-fitting alternatives or run increasingly tired OEM hardware.

What this coilover does for your 1988-1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 4WD

Running 9,720 possible adjustment combinations through three dedicated knobs, the Circuit Master allows the VR4’s damping to be calibrated to track conditions across a session. The McPherson geometry means damping changes translate directly into corner-entry behaviour – the front end’s tendency to understeer under trail-braking becomes a tunable characteristic rather than a fixed trait of the platform. Ride height adjustment lowers the VR4’s centre of gravity, cutting body roll through the sweeping corners where the 4WD drivetrain generates most of its advantage. The three-knob oil-passage configuration maintains controlled flow through larger inputs; the minor acoustic feedback this produces at the extremes of the adjustment range is an inherent behaviour of the design under circuit conditions, not a fault.

About the Circuit Master

The Circuit Master is XYZ Racing’s competition-grade coilover – the kit specified across Racing Spec, Drift Spec, and Tarmac Rally builds where sustained performance under repeated hard use is the requirement. Tested by XYZ racing teams across international circuits, the system is built around three adjustment knobs that together produce 9,720 distinct damping configurations, covering the range from refined fast-road settings through to dedicated circuit setup. The small oil-hole design within the three-knob system controls oil flow during high-amplitude inputs – it is the source of the minor noise the kit produces through very large impacts, a characteristic specific to this architecture and expected in circuit use. This is a product built for sealed-surface track work, not for rough or broken road conditions.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 4WD (McPherson) (1988-1992)

The XYZ-COIL-MT22-CM kit is built to the McPherson front strut configuration of the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 4WD produced between 1988 and 1992, referenced under XYZ’s chassis code MT22. Confirm your car carries the McPherson front suspension before ordering – the Galant VR4 name spans more than one generation and more than one suspension layout, and this kit covers the McPherson variant only.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
