XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi ECLIPSE 2000-2006

The third-generation Eclipse’s front-wheel-drive layout was always going to make it an interesting proposition on sealed tarmac stages. With the 4WD drivetrain of its predecessors gone, the 3G puts everything through the front axle – steering, drive, and primary braking load – which means the MacPherson struts are working considerably harder than they were ever designed to once the road surface starts to deteriorate.

A coilover designed specifically for tarmac rally conditions is not the same animal as an uprated road damper. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the 2000-2006 Eclipse is built for exactly the kind of high-intensity, surface-variable running where a standard unit saturates and a circuit-biased product finds its limits on the compressions and crests that closed public roads routinely throw at you.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The primary engineering focus is impact absorption on uneven tarmac – the kind of scarred, patched, and cambered surface typical of closed-road competition. Large compressions that would upset a firmer road coilover are managed without the body shock that bleeds steering feel and traction from the driven front axle. On a FWD platform, keeping those front tyres loaded through compressions is not an incidental benefit – it is the difference between a confident exit and a fight with understeer that compounds across the stage. Vehicle stability through this kind of terrain allows the driver to commit earlier and carry more speed over ground that would otherwise demand a margin of caution. The calibration draws directly from XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, so the rates are not a road-to-rally adaptation but settings validated through actual stage use.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ’s Tarmac Rally specification is engineered for sealed-stage competitive use, not repurposed from a fast-road or circuit product. The damper is built to absorb the repeated impact loads of uneven pavement – the kinds of compression hits that accumulate across a stage and progressively degrade a standard unit’s response. Body movement under hard braking and over crests is actively suppressed, protecting tyre contact and maintaining the mechanical consistency the driver needs to make repeatable inputs. The entire calibration reflects XYZ’s own tarmac rally racing experience, meaning the setup decisions – spring rate, damper curve, ride height range – are drawn from what actually works at speed on stage, not from what looks credible on a specification sheet.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (2000-2006)

These coilovers are listed for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (chassis reference MT15) covering the 2000 to 2006 model years, encompassing the third-generation coupe and Spyder body styles produced in this period. The front-wheel-drive 2.4 GS and 3.0 GT variants are covered; confirm your body style before ordering.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
