XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi ECLIPSE 2000-2006

The third-generation Eclipse platform was never designed with gravel stages in mind. It is a front-heavy coupe running MacPherson struts and multi-link rear geometry, factory-tuned for road composure rather than the sustained punishment of loose-surface competition. Campaigning one in rally or rallycross exposes exactly that gap: standard dampers cannot absorb the violent compressions, unpredictable traction, and lateral loads that a gravel loop delivers inside a single minute of stage driving.

These XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilovers for the Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000-2006 are built to close that gap. The specification starts from the reality of what loose-surface competition actually demands – not circuit control, but the ability to survive and perform on sandstone, snow, and silt at speed, without the suspension topping out or transferring chassis vibration through to the driver’s inputs.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The inverted-tube construction reduces unsprung weight and protects the piston rod from debris ingestion – a real concern on gravel where the surface throws material directly at the damper body. Long-travel stroke keeps the suspension in contact with the surface through high-speed compressions that would top out a circuit-spec unit, preserving steering feel and traction precisely where the Eclipse’s front-heavy bias would otherwise be working against you. The extended spring platform works progressively to absorb chassis vibration rather than transmitting it, giving the driver cleaner feedback when reading a loose surface at pace. Spring rate settings validated through rally racing team testing mean the compliance-to-control balance is calibrated for actual stage loads, not estimated from a road-biased baseline.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series is XYZ Racing’s dedicated damper line for loose and mixed-surface competition, developed around the demands of rallycross – which presents the most aggressive road conditions of any motorsport discipline, as surface conditions combine high-speed compressions, lateral G-forces, and constantly varying grip levels. Each unit uses an inverted-tube architecture to meet the demands of sandstone, snow, and silt stages, where road surface can change character mid-corner. The long-stroke travel and extended spring length are engineered to absorb severe chassis vibration on high-speed rough roads and to handle the extreme G-forces generated when turning at pace on loose terrain. All spring rate settings have been through validation with a rally racing team, not modelling alone – the setup has been calibrated against the loading conditions of real competitive events before it reaches the car.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (2000-2006)

These coilovers are catalogued for the Mitsubishi Eclipse under the MT15 chassis designation, covering model years 2000 to 2006. Fitment spans the coupe body styles produced across this generation. Confirm whether your specific Eclipse runs a front-wheel-drive or AWD configuration before ordering, as rear suspension architecture differs between variants and will affect rear fitment geometry.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
