XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mazda PREMACY 1998-2003

The first-generation Mazda Premacy is an unusual candidate for a Tarmac Rally coilover, and that is precisely the point. The CP-platform compact MPV shares its bones with the 323F, which means the chassis underneath the tall body is more willing than the school-run silhouette suggests. What it does not tolerate is the body roll and dive that comes as standard, and that is the gap this kit was built to close.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the Mazda Premacy 1998-2003 is the right pick if you are running a CP-shell on closed-road stages, hillclimbs, or sealed-surface targa events. It is a sealed-tarmac specification, not a gravel kit, so it sits firmer and lower than the Gravel Rally variant and asks the chassis to behave like a hatchback rather than a people-carrier.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2003 Mazda Premacy

The taller body and higher centre of gravity of the MA28 Premacy is the first thing that needs solving on a stage, and the Tarmac Rally kit attacks it directly. Stiffer spring rates and the 30-way damping adjustment let you wind out the wallow that makes the car feel reluctant to change direction, and the ride-height adjustment via the lower bracket lets you drop the centre of gravity without cooking the spring travel. Pillowball top mounts replace the rubber upper bushes, so steering inputs reach the strut without the lag you get on a road car. On a tightening tarmac corner you feel the front end take a set and stay there, instead of leaning, washing wide, and asking for a mid-corner correction. Bump and rebound are tuned independently, which is how you stop the car skipping over mid-corner surface changes that the original dampers smother.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally specification is built around a monotube damper body running 30 clicks of combined bump and rebound adjustment, with separate ride-height adjustment on a threaded lower bracket so corner weight is set independently of preload. Spring rates are matched to a sealed-surface stage car running on slicks or fast road compound tyres, sitting firmer than the Super Sport and softer than the Circuit Master. Pillowball upper mounts come as standard. Where the chassis allows it, the front mounts are camber-adjustable so you can set static negative camber to the figure your tyre data is asking for. The whole assembly is a fully rebuildable, fully revalvable unit, which is what you want on a car that sees real stage mileage.
