XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz AMG GTR 2017-2023

The AMG GT R’s rear-transaxle layout and near-even weight split make it a handful the moment tarmac gives way to loose surface – a car built to put power down predictably on a smooth circuit doesn’t behave the same when the road turns to gravel, sand or silt underneath it. The Gravel Rally coilover exists for exactly that transition.

Where a Sport or Circuit-focused kit chases stiffness and low ride height, this build does the opposite: it’s set up to soak up repeated, violent inputs from a broken surface without the chassis losing composure lap after stage. For an AMG GT R being campaigned off asphalt, that’s the difference between a suspension that survives the event and one that doesn’t.

What this coilover does for your 2017-2023 Mercedes Benz AMG GTR

Fitted to a 2017-2023 AMG GTR, the extended stroke length gives the rear axle far more travel to work with than the standard setup allows, which matters when the car is landing off crests or crashing through ruts rather than riding smooth British B-roads. The longer springs paired with that stroke are there to keep the tyre in contact with the ground through compressions that would otherwise send a shorter-travel setup into the bump stops. Because the GT R carries its weight rearward through the transaxle, the rear end is doing most of the work when the surface breaks traction – this kit is built to let that rear axle absorb chassis vibration and high-G cornering loads without transmitting every impact straight into the structure.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally coilover is built around an inverted-tube damper body, a layout XYZ Racing developed specifically because rally and rallycross surfaces are the most punishing road conditions any of its dampers face – sandstone, snow and silt each load a damper differently, and the inverted design is aimed at coping with all three rather than being optimised for one. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond what a tarmac-only coilover would use, giving the damper room to deal with sustained chassis vibration and hard, high-speed hits from broken ground, while still holding the car together under the extreme cornering G-force a loose-surface stage generates. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set through actual rally racing team use rather than bench testing alone, so the rates on the shelf reflect what has held up under stage conditions.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz AMG GTR (2017-2023)

This kit is built for the Mercedes Benz AMG GTR, chassis code GTR, across the full 2017-2023 production run. Confirm your build year falls within that window before ordering, as damper length and mounting points are specific to this generation of GT R and are not shared with other AMG GT variants.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
