XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz AMG GTR 2017-2023

The AMG GTR’s rear-biased weight and its appetite for putting power down on loose, cambered surfaces make it an unusual candidate for stage work, but that’s exactly where a Tarmac Rally set earns its name. Sealed-stage tarmac rally punishes a chassis with compressions, crests and mid-corner ruts that a road-going GTR was never sprung to absorb – this coilover is built to take that abuse without the rear end stepping out of line.

Where a fast-road coilover is tuned for consistency lap after lap on a smooth circuit, the Tarmac Rally spec is calibrated for the opposite: broken surfaces, changing camber, and the kind of hit a pace note doesn’t always warn you about. On the GTR specifically, that means controlling weight transfer onto the rear axle under power out of a hairpin without unsettling the nose on turn-in.

What this coilover does for your 2017-2023 Mercedes Benz AMG GTR

Fitted to a GTR built between 2017 and 2023, this kit changes how the car deals with the exact surfaces that break lesser suspension: big compressions, mid-corner bumps, and the transition from tarmac to gravel-dusted apex. The damper absorbs the jolt from a hard hit rather than transmitting it through the body, which keeps the rear tyre loaded and gripping instead of skipping. That matters enormously on a car with the GTR’s power-to-grip ratio – a moment of lost traction over a bump costs time and, on a stage, can cost the car. Suppressing body shock through the impact also holds the platform flatter through direction changes, so the transition from braking to turn-in stays predictable even when the road surface isn’t. The result on your GTR is stability you can actually feel: the car settles rather than pogos after a bump, and traction off a rough apex comes back sooner.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This damper is built specifically for the demands of tarmac rally stages, where uneven pavement, expansion joints and mid-corner bumps hit far harder and more often than on a closed circuit. The valving is set to absorb the impact of a big hit rather than fight it, suppressing the shock that would otherwise unsettle the body and unload the tyre. That control is aimed squarely at traction – keeping the contact patch working through the exact moment a lesser setup would let the tyre skip. The settings built into this unit come directly from XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, carried over from stage running rather than derived on a bench. On a car as power-heavy as the GTR, that translates into a platform that stays composed enough through a rough sequence to let you use the throttle earlier, with the stability to back it up when the road stops behaving.

This kit is built to the AMG GTR chassis for the 2017 to 2023 model years. Confirm your build year falls within that range before ordering, as GTR suspension geometry and mounting points are specific to this generation.
