XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda 6 (GH1) (NON MPS) 2008-2012

The GH1 Mazda 6 has always been the thinking driver’s mid-size saloon – long wheelbase, MZR-powered, and softer in factory trim than the chassis actually deserves. The Racing Spec coilover is the kit you fit when you’ve decided the GH1 has more to give and you want to stop apologising for the body roll on a B-road.

This is a circuit-focused setup for the non-MPS 2008-2012 Mazda 6, sized for owners who run track days, sprint events, or hillclimbs and want a damper that won’t go off the boil after three hot laps. It assumes you know what you bought the car for, and you’re done with OEM compromise.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Mazda 6 (GH1)

Spring rates and damper valving in the Racing Spec range are pitched harder than the road-biased XYZ kits, so the first thing you’ll feel is the front end stopping the long-nose pitch the GH1 carries into trail-braking. Roll is reined in without making the car nervous on bumpy UK B-roads, which is the GH1’s home territory. Adjustable damping lets you separate compression behaviour over track kerbs from rebound control on cambered fast road sections. Pillowball top mounts on the front locate the strut precisely under load, sharpening turn-in response that the soft factory top mounts blur. Ride height is fully adjustable on the lower bracket, so you set drop without pre-loading the spring – important on a car this long.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec sits at the harder end of the XYZ road-and-track ladder, built around a 30-way adjustable damper running monotube construction with a separate piston and shim stack. The damper body is hard-anodised for corrosion resistance, which matters in a UK winter when the car still gets driven. Springs are linear-rate and matched to the Racing Spec valving – XYZ specifies them paired, so re-springing without re-valving defeats the design. Ride height is set independently of spring preload via the threaded lower bracket, preserving full damper stroke at whatever drop you run. Front struts use a pillowball upper mount; rear units are shock-and-spring separate where the GH1 platform demands it.

Fitment for the Mazda 6 (2008-2012)

This kit is for the GH1 chassis Mazda 6, non-MPS, model years 2008 through 2012. It will not fit the earlier GG/GY 6 or the GH MPS turbocharged variant, which uses a different front strut and rear hub setup. Saloon, hatch, and estate body styles on the GH1 platform are all covered by this part number.
