XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — Mazda 6 (GH1) (NON MPS) 2008-2012

The GH1 Mazda 6 was always the journalist’s pick in its class – a saloon that actually responded to the wheel when most of its rivals just plodded. The trade-off was a chassis tuned for showroom comfort, with soft secondary ride and a front end that washes wide when the road tightens up. The XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover is the fast-road answer: rein in the body movement, sharpen turn-in, and give the GH1 the precision the steering rack has been promising all along.

This is a Super Sport spec, which sits in the middle of the XYZ catalogue for a reason. It is the kit you fit when the car is still daily-driven, still doing motorway miles, still putting up with British B-roads in February – but you want it to behave like a proper driver’s saloon when you point it at a good road.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Mazda 6

Drop the GH1 onto Super Sports and the first thing you notice is the body settling – the float over crests and the lean through quick direction changes are gone, replaced by a planted, level platform. Adjustable damping (30-way on the Super Sport range) means you can run it firmer for a weekend blast and back it off for the commute, without ever opening a bonnet. Ride height is wound in at the lower bracket rather than by preloading the spring, so you keep full suspension travel even when the car is sitting low over the arches. The result is a saloon that turns in cleanly, holds its line under load, and rides bumps with control rather than crash. Brake-into-corner confidence improves too, because the front is no longer diving onto its bump stops every time you ask it a serious question.

About the Super Sport coilover

Each strut uses a monotube damper with a separated piston design, which keeps oil and gas apart and stops the damping fading on a long, hot run. The 30-way click adjuster sits at the top of each unit and changes compression and rebound together, which is the right call for a fast-road kit – one knob, repeatable settings, no engineer’s notebook needed. Spring rates are matched to the GH1’s kerb weight and front-biased balance rather than pulled from a universal chart, and the units are built around an aluminium upper mount with a pillowball top for direct steering response. Camber is adjustable on the front mounts, so you can dial in a touch of negative for sharper turn-in without resorting to camber bolts. Construction is corrosion-resistant throughout, which matters on a saloon that is going to see UK winter salt.

Fitment for the Mazda 6 (2008-2012)

This kit is built for the GH1-generation Mazda 6 saloon, hatch and estate in NON-MPS form, covering the 2008 to 2012 production run. The MPS uses a different front strut housing and is not covered by this part number – if you are running the turbocharged MPS, you need the dedicated MPS kit. Confirm your chassis code on the VIN plate before ordering.
