XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Hyundai VELOSTER 2011-2017

The Veloster’s three-door layout and short 2,650 mm wheelbase make it twitchy over mid-corner bumps – exactly the kind of surface that defines a sealed-stage tarmac rally. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built to keep the front Michelin loaded when the road surface stops cooperating, so a turbocharged 1.6 GDI or a naturally aspirated 1.6 can put its torque down through broken tarmac without the inside wheel spinning up.

This is the rally-specific spec in the XYZ catalogue – not the Super Sport, not the Circuit Master. The damping curves come from XYZ Racing’s tarmac stage programme, which means the kit is set up to soak the hits rather than skip over them.

What this coilover does for your 2011-2017 Hyundai Veloster

On a Veloster running tarmac stages or a fast B-road loop, the immediate change is composure over compressions. The damper is built to absorb the jolt of a big bump and suppress body shock, which keeps the contact patch planted instead of letting the chassis hop sideways mid-corner. That translates directly into traction the standard MacPherson front end was never asked to deliver.

The second thing you feel is stability under braking into broken surfaces. The Veloster’s slightly rearward weight bias for a front-driver means the back end likes to step out when the dampers can’t catch a transient – this kit is set up for exactly that scenario. Ride height is adjustable for stage clearance versus tarmac ride height, and the spring and damping rates work together to keep the geometry consistent through travel.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is engineered for sealed-stage rally use – a separate discipline from circuit racing, with different damper requirements. Where a track coilover prioritises platform stiffness on a known, flat surface, a tarmac rally damper has to absorb the impact of uneven pavement and stay composed when the surface throws something unexpected at it.

XYZ Racing’s design brief on this kit is impact absorption first, body control second. The damper is tuned to suppress shock travel through the chassis when crossing big bumps, which prevents the unsettling moment where a front-driver loses its line over a kerb or a sunken drain. Every setting in this kit is drawn from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally competition experience – the spring rates, the damping curves, the rebound behaviour are all calibrated to what the brand’s rally programme has learned on closed-road stages.

The result is a coilover that increases tyre traction over rough surfaces and gives the driver predictable handling when the road stops being smooth. It is not a one-size-fits-all road kit with a rally sticker.

Fitment for the Hyundai Veloster (2011-2017)

This kit fits the first-generation Hyundai Veloster, chassis code HY27, across the full 2011 to 2017 production run. That covers both the naturally aspirated 1.6 GDI and the Veloster Turbo variants on the same platform.
