XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Hyundai MATRIX 2001-2010

The Matrix is an unusual base for a rally build – a tall, narrow MPV-hatch with a high centre of gravity and soft factory damping that was tuned for school runs, not stage starts. That is precisely the chassis problem this Tarmac Rally kit is built to solve: keeping the body flat through a hairpin and putting the front tyres into the road on corner exit, on a platform that wants to lean and skip in standard form.

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally specification comes out of their own sealed-stage programme, and the brief is narrow – absorb the hit from broken tarmac, kerbs and compressions without losing tyre contact, and give the driver a chassis that responds the same way on lap one and lap fifteen.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2010 Hyundai Matrix

On a Matrix, the felt difference is immediate at turn-in. The kit pulls the body down and stiffens the roll response, so the chassis stops loading the outside front tyre the way the factory springs and dampers do, and the nose follows the steering rather than washing wide. Over mid-corner bumps and ridges the damping keeps the contact patch planted instead of skipping, which is where standard Matrix dampers give up.

Front-end braking confidence climbs with it – less dive means the front tyres stay loaded under threshold braking into a stage corner, and the back end stays settled rather than skipping sideways on a crested entry. On smoother tarmac the same damping philosophy translates to a fast-road platform that finally feels like it is connected to the surface.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This is a purpose-specified damper for sealed-stage tarmac work, developed inside XYZ Racing’s own Tarmac Rally programme rather than adapted from a circuit kit. The damping curves are built to absorb the jolt of a big compression – a kerb strike, a compression at the bottom of a dip, a transition over a patched surface – without unloading the tyre on rebound.

The intent is shock-body suppression: the damper soaks the energy so the chassis stays level and the tyre keeps working, instead of the impact transferring up through the body and lifting the contact patch. Vehicle stability under those conditions is the point, and the settings carried into every kit come directly out of XYZ Racing’s tarmac rally testing. It is a focused tool – the geometry, valving and spring rates are matched to a car that is going to be driven hard on broken sealed surfaces, not a one-size compromise.

Fitment for the Hyundai Matrix (2001-2010)

Built for the Hyundai Matrix HY16 chassis across the full 2001 to 2010 production run. Confirm your chassis code matches HY16 and your year of registration falls inside the listed range before configuring spring rate and ride height options.
