XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Hyundai MATRIX 2001-2010

The Hyundai Matrix was never meant for stage rally, which is exactly why a privateer running one needs a damper built for the discipline rather than the donor car. Tall, narrow, front-driven and softly sprung from the factory, the HY16 platform rewards a suspension that lets the body breathe over crests and big compressions instead of pinning it flat – and that is the brief this kit was built to.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Hyundai Matrix is a long-stroke, inverted-tube damper developed specifically for loose-surface competition. It is not a lowering kit with the word "rally" stamped on the box. It is the gravel spec from XYZ Racing’s competition catalogue, adapted to the HY16 strut and subframe geometry.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2010 Hyundai Matrix

On gravel, gripping the road matters less than staying in contact with it, and that is where the long-stroke design earns its keep. The extended travel gives the front struts room to recover after a yump or a deep rut without coil-binding, so the Matrix’s nose stays planted into the next corner rather than skipping wide. The inverted tube layout puts the larger-diameter shaft at the bottom, where it resists the side-load and stone-strike abuse that kills a conventional monotube on a stage. The longer springs are matched to the travel – they carry the car’s weight through full droop without going slack, so the inside front isn’t lifting and spinning on corner exit. The net effect is a Matrix that will take a full gravel stage at competition speed without the dampers fading, the springs unseating, or the body crashing through to the bumpstops on every compression.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing designed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross, where the road surface – sandstone, snow, silt, broken tarmac transitions – is the most aggressive any motorsport discipline throws at a car. The inverted tube construction is the headline engineering choice, chosen to handle the variety of surface conditions a stage car sees in a single event. Stroke length is deliberately long so the damper can absorb chassis vibration on washboard sections, attack high-speed bouncy roads without bottoming, and carry serious G-force loads through the heavily cambered corners that loose-surface stages throw at the driver. The long springs work in concert with that stroke, keeping rate progression linear through deep compressions. Every spring rate in the kit was specified and tested by XYZ Racing’s own rally programme rather than calculated from a road-car damping curve and hoped for the best.

Fitment for the Hyundai Matrix (2001-2010)

This kit fits the HY16 Hyundai Matrix across the full 2001-2010 production run, covering both the original launch spec and the post-facelift cars. Check your VIN against the chassis-code list if you are building a stage car from a late-model donor, as suspension hardware specifics on the rear axle can vary by market.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
