XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Hyundai MATRIX 2001-2010

The Hyundai Matrix is an unusual base for a Racing Spec build. The HY16 is a tall, front-drive MPV with a high roll centre and soft factory damping tuned for supermarket runs, not apex curbs. That is exactly why a properly specified competition coilover transforms it: every gain in body control, contact-patch consistency and turn-in sharpness is dramatic on a car this far from the factory brief.

For circuit work or time-attack in an HY16 Matrix, the Racing Spec sits at the sharp end of the XYZ Racing range. It is not a fast-road kit asked to moonlight at trackdays. It is a competition damper, set up with rates and valving informed by XYZ Racing’s own race programmes, fitted to a chassis most people would never put on a circuit.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2010 Hyundai Matrix

Drop a Racing Spec into the Matrix and the first thing you feel is the body finally stops arguing with the wheels. Roll is contained, weight transfer happens on your timing instead of the chassis’s, and the front end loads predictably under trail-braking rather than washing wide. Mid-corner bumps that used to skip the inside rear off the surface get absorbed and turned into grip. Stance comes with it – ride height is adjustable across the kit’s range, so the Matrix can sit where you want it without bottoming the dampers on track entry curbs. Pair the damping setting to your tyre and circuit, and the car becomes something you can lean on lap after.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec is built specifically for track racing, with damper rates and valving derived from direct competition – including WTCC-level touring car involvement. That is the relevant detail: this is not bench-tuned suspension theory, it is hardware whose baseline settings come out of race weekends. Construction and damping curves are biased toward repeated high-load cycles – hard braking zones, kerb strikes, sustained high-speed compression – rather than ride comfort. For cars running aggressive factory upgrades, A-class race-prep, or unusual aero and tyre packages, XYZ Racing will build bespoke shocks: supply the spec of the car and the circuits it will run, and the dampers can be valved around that brief. On the Matrix, where there is no off-the-shelf race setup to copy, that bespoke route is genuinely useful.
