XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CIVIC ES1/2/3/ET2 2000-2005

Gravel stages punish a front-drive hatch in ways tarmac never does, and the seventh-gen Civic – light, short-wheelbase, with a torsion-beam rear that gets skittish the moment grip turns inconsistent – needs a damper that can soak up a compression at speed and still control the rebound on the next yump. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Honda Civic ES1/2/3/ET2 is built for exactly that brief: loose-surface stage rally and rally cross, where the road surface changes from sandstone to silt to standing water inside a single corner.

This is not a fast-road kit with longer springs bolted on. It is the rally-specific damper in the XYZ catalogue, developed and spring-rate-tested with rally teams on gravel, and it shares almost nothing in philosophy with the Super Sport or Top Sport circuit kits.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2005 Honda Civic ES1/2/3/ET2

On a stage car the first thing you feel is travel. The long-stroke design lets the chassis absorb a mid-corner crest without unloading the inside wheel, which on the ES1/2 platform is the moment understeer normally turns into a half-spin. The longer springs work with that stroke rather than packing down, so the front axle keeps biting through compressions instead of skipping across them. On rally cross hits and standing-water sections, the inverted tube layout puts the stiffer, larger-diameter element where the side-load actually goes, and the damper survives repeat high-G corner entries without fade. For a 1.4, 1.6 or Type-R ES-series Civic being prepped for clubman rally, that translates into a car you can lean on in the second pass of a stage instead of nursing.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing designed this damper specifically for rally racing and rally cross, where the road surface is the most aggressive of any motorsport discipline. The construction uses an inverted tube layout chosen to handle the variety of surfaces a stage throws at a car – sandstone, snow, silt and broken gravel – by putting the rigid outer body in line with the cornering loads. Long stroke and long springs work as a pair: the stroke absorbs chassis vibration and the sharp, high-speed inputs from a bouncy stage road, while the spring rates are set to bear the extreme G-forces a rally car generates through a fast turn. Every spring rate in the kit has been tested by a rally racing team in competition conditions, not on a simulator. This is the damper XYZ build when the brief is gravel stages, not tarmac.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC ES1/2/3/ET2 (2000-2005)

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
