XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — Honda CIVIC ES1/2/3/ET2 2000-2005

The seventh-generation Civic saloon and coupe arrived in the UK as the sensible alternative to the wilder EP3 hatch, but the ES1/2/3 and ET2 chassis share the same fundamental problem under enthusiast ownership: a soft, comfort-biased setup that runs out of body control the moment you start carrying speed through a B-road sequence. The XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover for the Honda Civic ES1/2/3/ET2 (2000-2005) is built to fix exactly that without turning your daily into a punishment.

This is the fast-road and weekend-track variant of the XYZ range. It gives the ES-shell Civic the body control it never had from the factory, while the 36-way damping range means you can soften it off for the Monday commute and firm it up before a Cadwell trackday on Saturday.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2005 Honda Civic CIVIC ES1/2/3/ET2

Drop the front of an ES1 or ET2 onto a properly damped coilover and the front-end vagueness disappears. The 36-way damping range gives you usable adjustment across the spectrum – softer clicks for broken UK B-roads where the OEM dampers crash through expansion joints, firmer clicks for a smooth circuit surface where you want the nose to take a set and stay there. Ride-height adjustment lets you close the arch gap that defines the ES saloon’s stock stance, but more usefully it lets you correct the geometry that the standard ride height compromises – getting the roll centre back into a sensible window and reducing the bump-steer that the front strut layout suffers from when you simply lower on shorter springs. Turn-in sharpens, mid-corner lean reduces, and the chassis stops loading the outside front tyre the way it does on tired OEM dampers. For a 1.6 or 1.7 Civic that was never going to make its case on power, that is where the lap time and the road-driving enjoyment actually comes from.

About the Super Sport coilover

The Super Sport damper is engineered around a single brief: take the harshness out of a coilover without giving up the body control that makes one worth fitting. XYZ Racing’s own description for this damper notes that it has eliminated the discomfort that comes from bumps and rough surfaces, which on UK roads is the thing that decides whether a coilover is liveable or not. The 36-way damping adjustment is the headline spec – one knob, 36 clicks, covering the full range from a compliant fast-road setting through to a firm circuit setup. Ride height is fully adjustable, so you can corner-weight a saloon or coupe shell to even out the cross-weight that comes from a left-hand-drive-designed platform sold in the UK as right-hand drive. XYZ position this damper as suitable for both weekend racing and daily use, and that is the honest brief – it is not a Top Sport, it is not a Tarmac Rally, it is the kit you fit when the car has to do both jobs.
