XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Holden COMMODORE VF 2013-2017

The VF Commodore is a heavy, long-wheelbase rear-driver carrying a big iron-or-alloy V6 or LS-derived V8 ahead of the front axle line, and on a sealed-stage tarmac rally that mass becomes the central problem. You need a damper that can swallow a cresting kerb-strike at speed, settle the body before the next apex arrives, and keep the outside rear loaded when the road camber turns against you. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built around exactly that brief.

This is not a fast-road kit pressed into rally duty. It is XYZ Racing’s tarmac-stage damper spec, dialled for the abuse that a sealed-stage Aussie or UK targa event throws at a 1,700kg saloon – repeat compressions, broken edges, mid-corner surface changes – without losing the tyre to the road.

What this coilover does for your 2013-2017 Holden Commodore VF

On a VF, the noticeable change is in how the car deals with a bump it cannot avoid. Standard VF dampers compress, then the rear axle skips and the car runs wide; the Tarmac Rally damping curve is set up to absorb that hit and recover before the next steering input, so the front end actually goes where you point it on a broken surface. Traction at the driven rear improves because the tyre stays in contact through the disturbance instead of unloading over it.

Body control under hard trail-braking tightens up too, which matters in a car this nose-heavy. The kit gives you a height-adjustable platform to set a usable rally ride height – low enough for stability, high enough to survive a mid-stage kerb – and a damper response that suits the surface rather than fighting it.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing engineers the Tarmac Rally damper specifically to handle uneven pavement at competition speed. The brief, in their own description, is to absorb the impact of a big bump, suppress body shock, and keep tyre traction loaded through the hit – so vehicle stability holds up where a road-biased coilover would skip and wash. The settings are drawn directly from XYZ Racing’s tarmac rally programme, not adapted from a circuit kit.

In practical terms that means a damper valving philosophy biased toward high-speed compression control – the kind of input you get from a broken seal joint or a kerb edge taken at pace – paired with a recovery rate that lets the wheel return to the road quickly. Construction is XYZ Racing’s standard race coilover platform with the rally-specific damping spec, ride-height adjustable on the threaded body. The platform is the same one XYZ Racing uses across its competition catalogue; the Tarmac Rally designation tells you which damping map is loaded in.

Fitment for the Holden Commodore VF (2013-2017)

This kit is fitted to the VF-generation Holden Commodore, the final Australian-built Commodore platform, covering model years 2013 through to the end of VF II production in 2017. Both sedan and Sportwagon bodies sit on the same suspension hardpoints, and the kit covers SV6, SS, SS-V and Calais-trim variants on standard VF subframes. Confirm your chassis is VF (not the earlier VE) before configuring.
