XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Volvo V40 1995-2004

The Volvo V40’s front-wheel-drive estate layout makes particular demands of any suspension setup asked to handle gravel stages or mixed-surface rallycross circuits. Where a rear-driven car can rotate on throttle through a loose hairpin, the V40 relies entirely on the front axle for both traction and steering authority – and on rough ground, that means the dampers must absorb the surface before it unsettles the nose.

Built to XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow specification for the V40 (1995-2004), these coilovers address exactly that challenge. Extended travel front and rear creates a greater buffer margin over crests, ruts, and rutted gravel, keeping the wheels in contact with the surface rather than skipping across it.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2004 Volvo V40

With both front and rear travel extended beyond standard coilover geometry, the V40 gains meaningful composure on gravel, snow, and broken-surface stages. The FWD layout means any instability at the front directly compromises steering authority – so the additional travel isn’t an optional extra; it keeps the car pointed where you need it when the ground gives way. Three adjustment knobs give the driver or engineer control over damping response, allowing the setup to be tuned for loose gravel, compacted snow, or the faster mixed-surface conditions of a rallycross venue. Extended oil and nitrogen gas capacity reduces thermal stress during sustained use, so damper performance stays consistent across a long stage rather than degrading as the fluid heats up.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

Developed specifically for rally and rallycross applications, the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow unit features extended travel at both ends of the car – increasing the buffer distance between the chassis and its bump stops when the ground gets rough. Three adjustment knobs govern damping response through a small oil-hole circuit; under large suspension inputs, oil flows through this restricted passage, which can produce minor noise in extreme conditions – an expected characteristic of the design, not a fault. Heat management is addressed through increased oil and nitrogen gas volumes, reducing thermal stress during sustained competitive use and maintaining consistent performance through repeated large suspension inputs. Construction is aimed at competitive stage and circuit environments rather than adapted road use; this is a tool for motorsport, not a compromise between the two.

Fitment for the Volvo V40 (1995-2004)

The XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built for the Volvo V40 across its full 1995 to 2004 production span, covering chassis code VL06. Confirm your specific variant against the XYZ fitment specification before ordering, particularly if your car carries non-standard suspension geometry from a previous build.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
