XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF R MK6 4WD φ55 (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2008-2012

The Golf R Mk6’s Haldex-driven 4WD system puts power down through all four corners under acceleration out of a hairpin, but it also means more unsprung mass and a chassis that was tuned from the factory around adaptive DCC damping, not fixed-rate coilovers. Fit a set of these on a car that left the factory with electronic damping and you need a way to remove the DCC control loop from the equation entirely – which is exactly what this Φ55-body, cancellation-kit-equipped Tarmac Rally kit is built to do.

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally line exists for one job: sealed-stage pace over broken tarmac, where the surface throws big, sharp-edged compressions at the chassis with no warning and no smoothing run-off. This isn’t a track-day spring-and-damper combo softened for comfort – it’s a rally-specification set-up tuned to keep the Golf R’s tyres loaded and the body settled when the road surface stops being predictable.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Volkswagen Golf R Mk6

On a car this heavy over the nose, with a turbocharged four-cylinder and Haldex hardware sitting ahead of the firewall, big compressions through a rally stage can unload the front tyres exactly when you need bite for the next direction change. This kit’s damping is set up to absorb those larger impacts without kicking the body into a secondary bounce, so the Golf R stays planted through consecutive compressions rather than skipping across them. Because the electronic DCC control is cancelled out via the supplied kit, damping behaviour is fixed and repeatable stage after stage – no control unit re-adjusting valving mid-corner based on inputs tuned for a road car, not a rally car. The Φ55 monotube body gives the damper more oil volume and a larger piston area than the standard-diameter twin-tube unit it replaces, which matters when a stage keeps loading the damper hard for extended stretches rather than the odd pothole. The result on the road out of the compression is more consistent front-end grip and a rear axle that follows the nose rather than stepping wide.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This is a damper built specifically around tarmac rally use, where the road surface is uneven, cambered and rarely resurfaced to circuit standard. XYZ Racing tuned the valving to soak up the impact of that broken surface rather than transmitting it straight into the chassis, so a big hit through a compression gets absorbed instead of jolting the body and unsettling the car mid-stage. Keeping the body controlled through those moments is what keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded, which is where the actual grip comes from on a stage rather than in the spring rate on paper. The settings built into this kit come directly from XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, carried over from stage running rather than derived purely on a damper dyno. For this Golf R Mk6 application specifically, the kit ships with the electronic-damping cancellation hardware needed to run fixed-rate coilovers on a chassis originally specified with DCC, so the car’s stability under load reflects this damper’s own tune rather than a factory control system fighting it.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF R MK6 4WD Φ55 (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) (2008-2012)

Built for the 2008-2012 Golf R Mk6 in 4WD, chassis code VO19-2-C, fitted with the Φ55 monotube damper body. This variant includes the cancellation kit required on cars specified with factory electronic (DCC) damping, so the coilover’s fixed valving runs independently of the original DCC control unit. Confirm your Golf R was built with the electronic damping option before ordering this specific cancellation-kit variant.
