XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Subaru IMPREZA GC/GF 2WD/4WD 1992-2000

Gravel rewards travel, and the first-generation Impreza was built to use it. The GC/GF platform – the sedan and wagon that carried Subaru through its mid-90s WRC title run – earns its keep on loose surfaces, where the symmetrical all-wheel-drive layout keeps putting power down long after a lesser car has lit up an unloaded inside wheel. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Subaru Impreza GC/GF 2WD/4WD (1992-2000) is the damper built for that exact arena: sandstone, snow and silt, taken at speed.

This is not a fast-road kit pressed into stage duty. It runs an inverted-tube design with long stroke and long springs – the geometry a gravel car genuinely needs to soak up a broken surface while still holding the chassis flat through a fourth-gear corner. The spring rates come from XYZ Racing’s own rally testing, not a catalogue chart.

What these coilovers do for your 1992-2000 Subaru Impreza GC/GF 2WD/4WD

On a loose stage the first gain you feel is contact. The long stroke keeps each tyre loaded over ruts, compressions and the crest that follows a jump, so the Impreza’s drivetrain has something to drive against instead of a wheel hanging in the air. Long springs give you the bump travel to take landings and drainage ditches without slamming the bump stop, which on a GC8 sedan or a GF wagon is the difference between carrying speed and lifting. The inverted strut body resists flex and stiction, so steering stays crisp even with the front axle working hard mid-corner. The result is a car you can commit to across silt and gravel rather than one that skates over the top of it.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rallycross, the discipline it rates as the most aggressive test a damper faces. On a loose stage the shock absorber does most of the work, so the design priorities sit a long way from a tarmac kit. The inverted-tube layout is chosen to cope with surfaces that change underwheel – the sandstone, snow and silt a single stage can serve up. The long stroke and long spring let the damper absorb chassis vibration, attack high-speed bouncy sections, and bear the extreme lateral G of a committed gravel corner. Every spring rate in the kit has been validated by XYZ Racing’s rally team rather than pulled from a spreadsheet, which is why the settings suit stage work over show.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
