XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — Nissan SILVIA S15 1998-2000

By 1998, the S-chassis had been through two generations of continuous development, and the S15 represented Nissan’s clearest statement yet on what a lightweight FR sports car should be. The shell was stiffer than the S14, the front suspension geometry was revised, and the rear subframe location rewarded controlled oversteer – on paper, close to ideal. In practice, the factory damping was calibrated for road use, and the SR20DET’s torque finds the limits of stock suspension quickly when you are holding a wide entry angle at speed.

The XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover for the Nissan Silvia S15 approaches the brief differently: geometry, ride-height range, and damper calibration are built for competitive drifting as the primary application, not as an adaptation of a road-biased platform.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2000 Nissan Silvia S15

At the centre of the Drift Spec’s on-car performance is high-speed body control – the ability to stabilise the S15’s platform under sustained lateral load rather than allowing the chassis to hunt between understeer and snap oversteer mid-slide. Ride height is adjustable with bump stroke specifically preserved at the lowered settings that drift builds demand, keeping the S15’s wheel travel working correctly rather than burning through it against the bumpstops at the worst moment. Correct front-to-rear balance at the ride heights this coilover is designed to run at makes the steering communicate clearly under load, so the driver can read what the chassis is doing and hold the chosen angle. Entry angle becomes a tool rather than a variable.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing designed the Drift Spec with one application in mind: high-speed competition drifting. The construction prioritises vehicle body stabilisation during high-angle cornering – the mechanical problem at the core of sustained drifting – rather than the progressive compliance and isolation that road coilovers are built around. Ride height adjustment is engineered to function in the lowered range that serious drift setups run, with bump stroke maintained so the suspension continues to do its job rather than running short of travel. The damper tune is calibrated for the sustained lateral loads of a competition run, not for absorbing road imperfections at motorway speeds. For the S15’s well-sorted FR chassis, the outcome is a coilover that works with the car’s natural rear-drive balance and amplifies what the platform already does well.

Fitment for the Nissan SILVIA S15 (1998-2000)

This kit covers the S15 Silvia from 1998 to 2000, including both the SR20DET Spec R and SR20DE Spec S variants – both use the same suspension geometry and mounting points across the range. Confirm your chassis code before ordering: the S14 and S15 share a visual similarity but the suspension pickup locations differ between generations.

The S15 is one of the few platforms where the factory foundation already leans toward the application – the Drift Spec is built to make the most of it. Select your configuration below.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
