XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi DIAMANTE 1997-2002

The Mitsubishi Diamante’s MT11-1 platform – a premium executive saloon built around a 3.0-litre V6 and a wheelbase sized for motorway comfort – asks unusual things of a suspension kit when it’s pointed at gravel stages. The weight bias, the body’s reluctance to move quickly over crests, the way the chassis loads up under lateral G on loose surfaces: these are the problems the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover was developed to address on this specific car.

Running a Diamante through rally competition means accepting a machine with genuine mass and a body never optimised for broken terrain, which puts the shock absorber firmly at the centre of the build. Get it wrong and the car either bounces itself off-line over high-speed undulations or bottoms out through a deep rut. The 1997-2002 generation makes no concessions to weight; the damper must do that work instead.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2002 Mitsubishi DIAMANTE

The inverted tube construction – placing the larger-diameter body at the top of the damper – keeps the working components away from stone strikes and debris that are inevitable on gravel stages. Extended stroke travel and longer-than-road-spec springs give the Diamante’s chassis the compliance it needs over high-speed crests and compressions that would overwhelm a standard unit. Spring rates across the range were established through testing with a rally racing team, so the baseline calibration arrives validated rather than speculative. The result is a damper that can sustain the extreme lateral loads generated through gravel-stage hairpins without the chassis losing its composure under a car of this mass.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally specification centres on an inverted tube layout – a design choice driven by the demands of loose-surface competition, where debris ingestion and lateral stiffness are simultaneous concerns on the same corner. The longer stroke and extended spring travel are built to handle the aggressive compressions and high-speed bouncing encountered on sandstone, snow, and silt surfaces, each of which behaves differently under the wheel and demands a damper that can adapt to rapidly changing inputs. All spring rate settings in the Gravel Rally range have been validated by a rally racing team, so the calibration reflects forces generated in actual competition rather than laboratory assumptions. The construction is oriented towards absorbing chassis vibration and managing the extreme G-forces that occur when a heavy executive saloon is driven at rally pace through tight, loose-surface stages.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi DIAMANTE (1997-2002)

This kit is specified for the Mitsubishi Diamante on the MT11-1 chassis, covering the full 1997-2002 production span. Confirm your drivetrain configuration before ordering – the Diamante was offered in both front-wheel drive and AWD variants across markets, and damper geometry can differ between the two.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
