XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz SLS 2009-2014

The SLS AMG is a long-nose, front-mid-engined GT with a 6.2-litre M159 V8 sitting behind the front axle line and a transaxle out back – a layout that gives it near-perfect weight distribution on paper, but in practice asks a lot of the suspension when you start loading it up. The factory ride is firm-but-floaty in a way that flatters motorway miles and softens transitions on a stage road. Tarmac Rally is the spec that sharpens that response without throwing away the GT character that makes the car liveable.

For closed-road tarmac events, hillclimbs, and the kind of fast B-road driving an SLS owner actually does in 2026, this kit pulls body movement back into a window where you can lean on the front end with confidence and rotate the rear on throttle without waiting for the chassis to catch up.

What this coilover does for your 2009-2014 Mercedes Benz SLS

Drop a Tarmac Rally setup under an SLS and the first thing you notice is the front end stops washing wide on turn-in – that long bonnet finally points where you ask it to, and the steering loads up progressively rather than going light at the limit. The damping is built for the kind of broken, cambered, bump-strewn surfaces that British and European tarmac stages throw at a car, so compressions over crests and mid-corner ruts no longer unsettle the gullwing’s tall body. Adjustable ride height lets you bring the SLS down off its factory rake without crashing into bump-stops, and the damping range gives you a softer setting for the road over to the event and a stiffer setting once the start-line marshal is counting you down. Spring rates are matched to the SLS’s substantial 1,620 kg kerb weight, so the car settles on its dampers rather than skipping across mid-corner bumps.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

Tarmac Rally sits in the XYZ Racing range as the dedicated stage-tarmac and closed-road spec – stiffer than the road-biased Super Sport and softer than the slick-tyre Circuit Master, with a damper internal valved for surface compliance rather than circuit flatness. The kit uses a monotube damper body with a separate piston and gas chamber, so high-frequency inputs from broken tarmac get absorbed without forcing the main piston to work against trapped oil. Pillowball top mounts on the front struts sharpen steering feel and remove the rubber compliance that softens initial turn-in on the standard car. Ride height is adjusted at the lower spring perch rather than by winding the damper body, which preserves shock travel – important on a car as long and as heavy as the SLS. Damping is adjustable across a wide click range from a single knob, with rebound and compression linked on one circuit to keep set-up changes intuitive between stages.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz SLS (2009-2014)

This kit is built for the ME30-platform SLS AMG produced from 2009 through 2014, covering Coupe and Roadster variants across that production span. Confirm your build year and that your car retains the factory front strut and rear damper architecture – aftermarket suspension swaps may change the mounting geometry.
