XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz AMG GT/ GT Roadster (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2017-2023

The AMG GT carries its 4.0-litre biturbo V8 low and tucked behind the front axle line rather than out over the nose, so the weight transfer under trail-braking into a tightening hairpin behaves differently to a front-engined car – it arrives later and settles into the rear more than owners expect on a stage they haven’t walked. That front-mid mass, combined with the standard car’s electronically controlled AMG Ride Control dampers, is exactly what this Tarmac Rally coilover is built to replace for sealed-stage work.

This kit includes the cancellation hardware needed to take the factory adaptive damping electronics out of the loop entirely, swapping them for fully mechanical XYZ Racing struts. On the GT and GT Roadster that matters more than on a car with passive dampers from the factory: there’s no ECU recalculating a damping curve mid-compression, and no chance of the standard system fighting an input you’ve already committed to on a fast stage.

What this coilover does for your 2017-2023 Mercedes Benz AMG GT/ GT Roadster (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping)

Sealed-stage tarmac surfaces are rarely as smooth as a circuit, and this coilover is set up to absorb the hit from broken edges, camber changes and mid-corner bumps without kicking that impact straight into the body structure. That control keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded evenly through a compression rather than skipping across it, which on a wide, heavy GT translates directly into more usable traction on corner exit. Manual damping adjustment lets you firm the car up for a smoother closed-road stage or soften it for a rougher one, without waiting on a software recalibration. Ride height is adjustable independently of spring preload, so you can correct the stance changes that come from stiffer rally-rate springs while keeping the GT’s low centre of gravity intact.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally line is built specifically around absorbing repeated big hits from uneven road surfaces rather than the smoother, more predictable loads of a closed circuit. Internally the valving is set to soak up sharp compression events – kerbs, potholed stage sections, cambered farm-track tarmac – without transmitting that shock straight through to the chassis, which is the main cause of a car losing its line mid-bump. The knock-on effect is more consistent tyre contact through rough sections, which is where a lot of stage time is won or lost. XYZ Racing has carried this specific damping character over from its own tarmac rally programme rather than adapting a circuit-biased setup, so the compression and rebound behaviour reflects what actually happens on a stage, not a track.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz AMG GT/ GT Roadster (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) (2017-2023)

Built for the ME52-C chassis, covering both AMG GT coupe and GT Roadster body styles from 2017 to 2023. Because the standard car runs electronically controlled AMG Ride Control dampers, this kit is specced with the cancellation kit required to remove that system from the car before the mechanical struts go in – fit it alongside the coilovers, not as an optional extra.
