XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda COSMO 13B/20B ROTARY 1990-1996

The Eunos Cosmo is the oddest grand tourer Mazda ever built – a 1.5-tonne front-engined coupe carrying either a twin-turbo 13B or the only production 20B three-rotor ever sold, riding on a chassis that was tuned for autobahn cruising rather than corner exit. Three decades on, the JC-platform’s factory dampers are long past their best, and a Cosmo on tired struts feels every kilo of that GT-class kerb weight through the front axle.

The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover for the 1990-1996 Cosmo is the track-leaning option for owners who have moved their car past show duty and want to actually drive it hard. It tightens up the JC’s lazy initial roll and gives you the adjustment range to load the front end into a corner without the nose washing wide.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1996 Mazda COSMO 13B/20B ROTARY

On a Cosmo, the most immediate change is body control. The standard car leans heavily on turn-in and settles slowly, which masks how much grip the chassis actually has – tighten that up and the car starts to feel like it weighs what a 1990s coupe should, not what a 1990s luxury barge does. Stiffer spring rates also stop the nose diving under braking, which matters on a heavy car with a long bonnet and a torquey rotary up front. The 30-way damping adjustment lets you separate the daily setting from the trackday setting without changing parts, and ride-height adjustment gives you the option to lower the centre of gravity or restore a clean fender gap on cars that have sagged on original springs. Pillowball top mounts sharpen steering response, which is exactly what the Cosmo’s slightly remote helm has always needed.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec sits at the harder end of the XYZ range, built around a 30-way damping adjuster and a monotube damper body designed to resist heat fade under repeat hard use. Spring rates are pitched higher than the road-biased Super Sport or Street Advanced kits, with the assumption that the buyer values circuit composure over plush cruising. Ride height adjusts independently of spring preload, so you can lower the car without preloading the spring and losing usable damper stroke. Pillowball upper mounts replace the rubber OE bushings to give a direct path from the tyre to the chassis. The kit ships with both front and rear units sized to the Cosmo’s JC-platform geometry.
