XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Mazda 323 1998-2003

The BJ-generation Mazda 323’s chassis was always more capable than its image suggested – a light, neutral front-driver that responded sharply to suspension work but suffered on tired OEM struts that let the nose roll and the rear go light mid-corner. The Top Sport coilover is built to sharpen that platform back into the hot-hatch handler it was supposed to be from the showroom floor.

For a 323 owner running fast B-roads or the occasional trackday, this is the spec that gives you proper damping authority without making the car undriveable on a UK back lane. The 1998-2003 MA15 chassis takes well to firmer rates because its kerb weight is low and its geometry is honest – it just needs the shocks and springs to keep up.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2003 Mazda 323

Drop the Top Sport onto a tired BJ 323 and the first thing you notice is the body finally settling. Turn-in goes from vague to immediate, and the front-end stops washing wide on throttle application out of slow corners. The 30-step damping adjustment lets you run a road-friendly setting for daily use and firm things up when you’re heading to a trackday or a spirited B-road run. Ride height adjustment is independent of preload, so you can sit the car right without coil-binding the spring or running out of damper stroke. On a chassis this light, the change in cornering composure is dramatic – the 323 starts behaving like the chassis the engineers signed off, not the worn-out runaround it usually is by year 25.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport is XYZ Racing’s fast-road and entry-level circuit coilover, built around a 30-way adjustable monotube damper with separate spring preload and ride-height collars. The damper body is hard-anodised steel with a pillow-ball top mount on applications where geometry allows, and the spring rates are matched to the platform rather than pulled from a one-size catalogue. Construction is serviceable – dampers can be rebuilt and revalved rather than thrown away when they wear, which matters on a 25-year-old car you intend to keep. The kit ships with everything needed to install in place of the factory struts and includes the spanner set for adjustment.
