XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 BF (GTX) 4WD 1987-1989

The 323 GTX is a Group A homologation special hiding in a hatchback shell, and the factory suspension was a compromise written for showrooms in 1987. Nearly forty years on, the original struts are tired, the bushes are shot, and the chassis is asking for the rally-bred setup it always deserved. The XYZ Racing Pro Rally coilover is built for exactly that brief.

Pro Rally spec means stage-ready damping with the travel and robustness to survive loose surfaces, kerbs and the kind of yumps the GTX was homologated to attack. For a 4WD turbo hatchback this rare, getting the geometry, ride height and damping back under control is the single biggest mechanical upgrade you can make.

What this coilover does for your 1987-1989 Mazda 323 BF (GTX) 4WD

Ride height is fully adjustable, so you can sit the GTX low for tarmac stages or lift it for gravel without resorting to packers or spacer kits. The 30-level damping range gives you a usable spread between a firm road setting and a stage-ready stage two – useful when the same car has to drive to the rally and home from it. Spring rates and damper valving are matched to the GTX’s all-wheel-drive layout, which means the front end stops nose-diving under braking and the rear stays planted through power-on rotation. On a chassis this short and this light, that change in body control transforms turn-in. Pillow-ball top mounts replace the worn rubber originals, sharpening steering feel and removing the vagueness that decades of compliance bushing degradation introduces.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally is XYZ Racing’s loose-surface specification, built around a monotube damper with a 30-step adjuster that simultaneously alters compression and rebound. Construction is a high-tensile steel body with a hard-anodised aluminium spring perch and locking collar, sized for the abuse a rally car puts through its suspension. Spring rates are selected for the GTX’s kerb weight and 4WD layout, with travel biased toward soaking up surface changes rather than chasing the last millimetre of ride height. The kit ships with rally-spec dust boots and protective sleeves, and the damper is fully rebuildable and revalvable – important on a car you intend to campaign for more than one season. It is a coilover engineered for cars that will leave the road, not just lower toward it.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 (1987-1989)

This kit is specified for the Mazda 323 BF GTX 4WD chassis built between 1987 and 1989, the four-wheel-drive turbocharged variant. Pillow-ball top mounts and rally-length stroke are matched to the GTX’s strut geometry. Confirm chassis code GTX against your V5 before ordering.
