XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda CIVIC TYPE-R FD2 2007-2011

The FD2 is the only Civic Type R Honda built as a four-door track weapon – JDM-only, 222bhp K20A at 8,400rpm, a stiffer shell than the EP3 or FN2, and a front-axle bias that rewards hard trail-braking and punishes lazy damping. The Racing Spec coilover is the kit you fit when forum threads about spring rates have stopped being interesting and you’ve started thinking in lap deltas.

This is not a fast-road kit pressed into circuit duty. The settings in this damper were developed through direct XYZ Racing involvement in WTCC competition, then carried down to a production part aimed at owners running their FD2 at Cadwell, Donington, or as a serious time-attack build.

What this coilover does for your 2007-2011 Honda Civic Type-R FD2

Under throttle out of a long second-gear corner, the FD2’s front end wants to push wide as the LSD loads up – the Racing Spec damper controls that transition with a tied-down compression stroke that keeps the contact patch settled instead of skating. On turn-in, the firmer rebound side stops the nose from diving and unloading the inside rear, so the chassis rotates cleanly rather than scrubbing.

Spring rate and damping are matched for slick or semi-slick tyres on a smooth circuit, so the FD2 sits flatter through Druids-style off-cambers and resists the mid-corner pitch that stock dampers can’t contain once the K20 is on cam. Ride height is set low enough to drop the roll centre without binding the lower arms. It is firm. It is not pretending to be a road kit.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is XYZ Racing’s circuit-grade damper, developed and validated through direct participation in WTCC and similar tin-top series. The valving and spring rates are not adapted from a road product – they were specified from race-team feedback first, then released as a customer-buyable kit.

Where most coilover lines stop at a single set of factory damping curves, Racing Spec opens the door to bespoke specification: for cars running aggressive aero, slick rubber, factory-style racing vehicles, or A-class race builds, XYZ will custom-build shock absorbers to brief. You supply the upgraded parts list and the circuit you’ll run, and the damper is specified accordingly. That is unusual at this price point and it is the part of the product worth knowing about before you order.

Construction is consistent with the rest of the XYZ Racing circuit catalogue – high-pressure monotube architecture for heat capacity over repeat sessions, threaded bodies for ride-height adjustment independent of preload, and pillowball top mounts where the platform allows for sharper steering feedback.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC TYPE-R FD2 (2007-2011)

Direct fit for the FD2 chassis, 2007 to 2011 production. This is the four-door K20A JDM Type R, not the European FN2 hatch – confirm your chassis code before ordering as the two cars do not share suspension hardware.
