XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EG SINGLE CAM (Rear FORK) 1992-1995

The EG-chassis Civic was a featherweight that rewarded commitment, and on a loose surface that low kerb weight becomes a liability the moment the dampers stop coping. Stage rally exposes the EG’s short-travel MacPherson front and rear-fork geometry in a way no fast-road setup ever will – washboard, jumps, kerb-strikes, and camber changes mid-corner all arriving inside the same second. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly that envelope on the 1992-1995 Civic EG single-cam (rear-fork) platform.

This is not a fast-road kit dressed up with tall springs. It is an inverted-tube damper running long stroke and long springs, with spring rates that have been signed off by an actual rally team rather than calculated on a desk. For an EG Civic running gravel stages or rallycross, it is the sensible starting point.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1995 Honda Civic EG Single CAM (Rr FORK)

On gravel, an EG lives or dies on how much travel the damper can deliver before it packs down. The long stroke here lets the suspension absorb compression hits from rocks, ruts and jump landings without bottoming the chassis onto the bumpstops – which on a light front-wheel-drive Civic is the difference between a clean exit and a snap into understeer. The long springs work with that stroke rather than going coil-bound halfway through a compression event, so weight transfer stays progressive when you trail-brake into a loose hairpin.

The inverted-tube construction puts the larger-diameter body up top, which stiffens the strut against the lateral loads an EG generates over crests and through ruts. Steering response sharpens because the strut itself flexes less under load. On a rear-fork EG that is significant – the geometry was never engineered with stage-rally G-forces in mind, and a stiffer damper body is doing real structural work, not just controlling oil flow.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the road surface is the harshest condition any motorsport coilover has to face. Sandstone, snow and silt all demand different damping behaviour, and the inverted-tube design is the platform XYZ uses to cover that range. Long stroke is the headline spec – it is what lets the damper keep working when the surface drops away mid-corner or rises sharply under a jump landing.

The long springs are matched to that stroke so the rate stays linear deep into compression rather than spiking at the end of travel. Spring rates across the range have been tested and signed off by an XYZ rally team, not selected from a generic motorsport catalogue. That matters because gravel spring rates are counter-intuitive – softer than circuit work in some axes, much firmer in others, and the only way to know is to run the stages. The damper is engineered to take aggressive high-speed bouncy-road inputs and the lateral G a rally car loads through the strut on a turn-in, without losing oil control.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EG Single CAM (Rr FORK) (1992-1995)

This kit is built for the HN16 chassis EG-generation Civic with the rear-fork suspension geometry and single-cam engine, production years 1992 to 1995. Confirm your car matches the rear-fork rear-end before ordering – the EG generation used more than one rear geometry and the fitment is geometry-specific.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
