XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda ACCORD CA1/2/3/4/5/6 1985-1989

The third-generation Accord is a rally weapon hiding in plain sight. Light kerb weight, double-wishbone suspension at all four corners, and a willing high-revving four make the CA-chassis Accord exactly the kind of platform that rewards proper damping over big horsepower numbers. The problem in 2026 is that anything still running on factory struts is fighting forty years of bushing fatigue and a damping curve never intended for loose surfaces.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically for that fight. This is not a fast-road kit pressed into stage duty; it is an inverted-tube, long-stroke damper engineered for sandstone, snow, silt, and the kind of repeated high-speed compression that destroys conventional twin-tube units inside a single stage.

What this coilover does for your 1985-1989 Honda Accord

On a CA Accord set up for gravel, the wishbone geometry only works as well as the damper holding it in tension. The long-stroke design here gives the front and rear suspension the travel they need to keep the contact patch loaded over rutted surfaces, instead of skipping into understeer the moment the road turns rough. The inverted-tube layout puts the strongest section of the damper at the top, which matters when a stone strike on a sump-level twin-tube would end your weekend.

Long-rate springs paired to a wide damping window let the car compress hard into yumps and crests without crashing through the bumpstops, while still keeping the rear settled when you lift off mid-corner – the lift-throttle rotation that makes a light front-wheel-drive Honda quick on a stage in the first place.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for Rally Racing and Rally Cross use, where road conditions are the most aggressive of any motorsport discipline. The inverted-tube construction is the headline engineering choice: it survives debris strikes, resists bending under cornering load, and keeps the damper rod cleaner across long stages.

Long stroke and long spring length are paired together by design – the kit is built to absorb chassis vibration across changing surfaces, take repeated heavy compression from high-speed bouncy roads, and hold up under the lateral G-force generated when the car is loaded into a turn at full commitment. Every spring rate in the range has been tested by XYZ Racing’s own rally racing team, which means the rates you fit are not a desk-engineer’s guess – they are what worked when a stage clock was running.

Fitment for the Honda Accord (1985-1989)

This kit is built specifically for the third-generation CA-chassis Accord, covering the CA1, CA2, CA3, CA4, CA5 and CA6 variants produced between 1985 and 1989. Confirm your chassis code against your V5 before ordering, and check the configurator below for spring-rate options matched to your intended stage surface.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
