XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ferrari CALIFORNIA (Both front and rear top mount are 4 holes) 2008-2014

A Ferrari California on a gravel stage is a sentence most owners will never write, but the Cali’s front-mid V8 layout, transaxle weight distribution and aluminium spaceframe make it a more credible rally-cross base than the badge suggests. The problem is that the factory magneto-rheological damping was tuned for Maranello tarmac and Monaco-to-Cap-Ferrat cruising – not for repeated full-bump events at 90mph across loose surface.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is the answer to that problem. It is built around an inverted-tube damper body, a long-stroke shaft and a tall free-length spring designed to soak up the kind of high-frequency, high-amplitude inputs that turn a road damper into a brick inside a single stage.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2014 Ferrari California

Drop these in and the California stops fighting the surface. The long-travel design means the wheel can follow a rutted gravel section instead of skipping across it, which keeps the rear axle planted under throttle on corner exit – exactly where the Cali wants to push wide on a low-grip surface. The inverted-tube construction shifts the heavier components inboard, reducing unsprung mass at each corner and letting the dampers react faster to mid-corner washboard.

On a rally stage, the noticeable change is in how the front end loads. Trail-braking into a gravel hairpin no longer collapses the nose onto the bumpstop, so you can carry brake pressure deeper and rotate on the throttle rather than fighting understeer. The spring rates have been validated against actual rally team feedback, so the car settles rather than oscillating after a yump or a fast direction change.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This is a dedicated stage-rally damper, not a tarmac coilover with softer springs bolted on. XYZ Racing developed the inverted-tube architecture specifically to cope with the worst surface conditions in motorsport – sandstone, snow, deep silt – where road-rally and tarmac-spec dampers simply run out of stroke and overheat. The long-stroke shaft and tall springs give the suspension room to absorb chassis vibration at speed and to handle the lateral G-loading that comes with attacking a loose-surface corner flat.

Every spring rate in the Gravel Rally range has been signed off by an active rally team rather than calculated from a desk, which is the reason the kit feels composed under conditions that would unsettle a generic motorsport coilover. The construction is engineered around survival as much as performance – the inverted body resists the side-loading and bump-induced bending that destroys conventional twin-tube units on a stage.

Fitment for the Ferrari California (2008-2014)

Bolt-in fit for the FE04-generation Ferrari California built between 2008 and 2014, covering the variant with four-bolt front and rear top mounts. The kit is built specifically around that four-hole top mount geometry, so confirm your car matches before configuring.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
