XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW X5 F15 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2013-2018

The F15 X5 was never built with stage rallying in mind. It is a 2.1-tonne luxury SUV with a long wheelbase, a high centre of gravity, and a chassis tuned for motorway composure rather than fourth-gear corners on a closed tarmac stage. The Tarmac Rally coilover exists for the small but committed group of owners running F15s in regional tarmac events, hillclimbs, and gravel-prep shakedowns where the standard air suspension simply will not survive a season.

This is the non-air-strut variant with the electronic damping cancellation kit included, which matters: the F15’s factory EDC system throws fault codes the moment it loses signal from the dampers, and the bypass loom in this package keeps the dash clean once the original struts come out. From there, the chassis becomes something the standard car never was – a height-adjustable, damping-adjustable platform that takes a kerb strike without permanently sagging the next morning.

What this coilover does for your 2013-2018 Bmw X5 F15 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping)

The biggest change you feel on the road back from a stage is body control. The standard air setup floats and pitches under brakes; the Tarmac Rally damping holds the nose down through long compressions and stops the rear from squatting under xDrive torque delivery out of slow corners. On broken surfaces – the patched, cambered, mid-stage tarmac that defines British rally routes – the valving is built to absorb the hit without unloading the contact patch, so the front tyres keep biting where an OEM setup would skip.

Ride height comes down to a sensible competition stance without losing the suspension travel the F15 needs to put 2 tonnes through a hairpin. The cancellation kit means no EDC warning lights, no limp mode after a stage, and no faffing with iDrive resets between runs.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This is XYZ Racing’s dedicated sealed-stage tarmac damper, and the valving philosophy is different from the road-going Top Sport or the circuit-focused Super Racing. The brief is to absorb the impact of uneven pavement – the joints, the kerbs, the patched repairs that punctuate every closed road in the UK – without losing body discipline through fast direction changes.

The damping is tuned to suppress shock through the body so the tyre stays loaded and traction holds when the surface is working against you. That is the entire engineering target: keep the contact patch planted across compressions a circuit damper would never see. The settings come directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme, so the baseline is a usable competition starting point rather than a generic spec sheet. For a heavy SUV chassis like the F15, that pedigree matters – the spring and damper rates have to do more work than they would on a 1,200 kg hatchback.

Fitment for the Bmw X5 F15 (2013-2018)

This kit is specific to the F15 generation X5 with the chassis code BM69-1-2-C, 2013 to 2018 model years, in 4WD xDrive form. Critical: this is the NON air-strut variant – for cars originally specified with conventional steel-spring dampers, not the optional two-axle air suspension. The electronic damping cancellation kit is included to suppress EDC fault codes on cars originally fitted with the adaptive damper option.
