The E60 M5 was never meant to slide. Its 5.0-litre S85 V10 sits long and heavy ahead of the front axle, the EDC electronic dampers were tuned for Autobahn composure rather than sustained lock, and the SMG-III shifted gearbox demanded a chassis that stayed planted. Strip the EDC out of the equation and you uncover a 507bhp rear-drive saloon with a near-50/50 weight balance and a viscous diff – the foundation for one of the most unlikely drift platforms on the UK club scene right now.
XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec coilover replaces the entire factory EDC system on the M5, with the supplied cancellation kit eliminating the dash fault codes that normally appear the moment you unplug an electronic damper. This is a circuit-derived setup re-tuned specifically for sustained angle, weight transfer on entry, and the rear-end recovery behaviour that matters when the V10 is screaming at 7,500rpm halfway through a transition.
What this coilover does for your 2005-2010 Bmw 5 SERIES E60 M5
The headline gain is body control under high-speed initiation – the moment you commit the M5’s nose, the chassis no longer wallows on its OE EDC programming and instead loads predictably onto the outside front. Drop the ride height through the proper bump-stroke window and the centre of gravity falls into a range where transitions stay flat rather than fighting the V10’s high crown mass. Front-end response sharpens, the rear settles faster after a clutch kick or handbrake pull, and you get a usable steering angle window where the OE car previously washed wide.
The cancellation kit removes the EDC dash warnings cleanly – no live electronic input, no permanent yellow lights, no ABS confusion under heavy lock. Damping is set mechanically and held there for the session.
About the Drift Spec coilover
The Drift Spec is purpose-tuned by XYZ Racing for competition drift use and nothing else. The geometry of the damper, the spring rate window, and the bump-stroke calibration are all aimed at one thing – stabilising a heavy body during high-speed cornering in order to hit and hold a perfect angle. That is the design brief XYZ run on it, and it is the brief that separates this kit from their Super Sport or Circuit Master ranges.
Once the ride height is set inside the correct bump stroke, drift control becomes measurably more linear. The rear remains predictable mid-slide rather than snapping into oversteer or running out of lateral grip prematurely. On the E60 M5 in particular, that translates to managing the V10’s torque delivery without the rear axle washing out the moment you reapply throttle.
Fitment for the Bmw 5 SERIES E60 M5 (2005-2010)
Chassis-coded BM42-C in XYZ Racing’s catalogue, this kit covers the E60-generation M5 saloon from the 2005 launch through to the 2010 run-out. The cancellation kit is included specifically to delete the factory Electronic Damper Control system on this car – confirm your M5 is the EDC-equipped variant before configuring.

Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
AluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
