XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 GTI φ55 (Modified Rear Integrated) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2013-2020

The MK7 Golf GTI left the factory with adaptive DCC dampers wired into its electronics, and that’s exactly the obstacle facing anyone building one for a tarmac stage: you cannot leave an electronic damping loop live and expect consistent, repeatable behaviour when the car is airborne over a crest or loading hard through a compression. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover for the Volkswagen Golf MK7 GTI is supplied with the cancellation kit that removes the DCC dependency outright, so the car runs on mechanical damping you set yourself rather than a control unit guessing at road surface.

This is a φ55 strut with the modified rear-integrated mounting XYZ uses on this chassis, built specifically around what a sealed-stage tarmac rally car needs from a Golf: predictable front-end response over broken tarmac, a rear axle that stays settled through fast transitions, and damping that doesn’t fight the front-wheel-drive GTI’s tendency to load the outside front hard under power out of a hairpin.

What this coilover does for your 2013-2020 Volkswagen GOLF MK7 GTI

Cancelling the DCC electronics and replacing them with a mechanical Tarmac Rally set-up means the GTI’s damping response stops depending on sensor input and starts depending on what you dial in before the stage. The φ55 strut body adds wall stiffness over the stock unit, which matters on tarmac stages where mid-corner ruts and camber changes hit the strut sideways as much as vertically. The modified rear-integrated mounting keeps the rear axle planted through the quick weight transfers a stage throws at a FWD hatchback – turn-in, mid-corner load, then power down – instead of letting the rear step out of sequence with the front. Ride height and corner-weighting are both adjustable, so the GTI can be set up to the stage surface and swept clean between recce and competitive runs.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ built this line specifically for surfaced-road competition, where the damper has to control repeated hard hits from broken and uneven tarmac without the body kicking back at the driver. The valving is set to soak up sharp jolts across bigger bumps rather than transmitting them into the chassis, which keeps the tyre loaded and gripping instead of skipping across the surface after impact. That control is what XYZ points to when it talks about stability through a stage – a car that holds its line rather than one that’s fighting its own suspension. The damping settings themselves come directly out of XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, not a generic road-going baseline adapted for competition.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 GTI (2013-2020)
