XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD φ55 (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2008-2012

The Mk6 Golf R’s Haldex-driven 4WD layout puts torque down through all four corners, but it also loads the front and rear axles very differently under power than a standard front-drive Mk6 – the rear end has to react to drive torque as well as cornering load, which stock dampers were never tuned to resolve at speed. XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec coilover replaces the factory φ55-strut geometry with a purpose-tuned damper that gives this specific 4WD chassis the axle control it needs when you’re pushing on into a corner rather than just cruising through one.

This is the track and time-attack end of the XYZ range, built for owners doing repeat sessions rather than the odd fast road blast. On a car running the electronic damping cancellation kit, that means a fully manual, mechanically-adjusted platform with no factory ECU interference – the damper itself does the work, session after session, with nothing left for the car’s own electronics to override.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Volkswagen GOLF MK6

Swap the stock φ55 strut for the Racing Spec unit and the Mk6 4WD stops rolling into corner entry and starts turning on its own terms – body control tightens up front and rear together, which matters more on a 4WD car because the rear end is carrying drive load as well as lateral load. Ride height drops and adjusts independently of that damping control, so you can set stance and geometry without touching the settings you’ve already found for a given circuit. Because the electronic damping system has been cancelled out at the hardware level, there’s no ECU trying to soften or firm the dampers mid-corner against your wishes – what you set on the damper is what stays set, lap to lap. That consistency is the entire point of stepping up from a road-biased setup: the car reacts the same way on lap ten as it did on lap one.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Racing Spec damper directly from circuit racing programmes, including WTCC, rather than adapting a road damper for harder use. The settings baked into the standard unit come from that competition data, so the platform arrives already sorted for genuine track abuse rather than needing months of trial and error to find a usable range. For cars carrying more aggressive supporting modifications – the kind of spec you’d find on a factory racing car or an A-class competition build – XYZ Racing will build a custom-specified shock absorber around the rest of your car’s setup and the specific circuit you intend to run, rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all damper onto a heavily modified platform. On the Mk6 4WD with the electronic damping cancellation kit, the Racing Spec unit takes over full mechanical control of damping duties that the factory system would otherwise manage electronically, which is exactly the kind of full override this type of build calls for.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK6 (2008-2012)

This kit is built for the Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD φ55 chassis (chassis code VO20-C), covering the 2008 to 2012 model years, and specifically includes the cancellation kit required to remove factory electronic damping control from the equation. Confirm your car uses the φ55 strut diameter and the electronic damping system before ordering, since the cancellation hardware is specific to that setup.
