XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF R MK6 4WD φ55 (Modified Rear Integrated) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2008-2012

The MK6 Golf R’s Haldex four-wheel-drive system puts power down hard out of slow corners, but that same drivetrain adds unsprung mass over the rear axle that a road-spec damper never accounts for. XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec coilover is built around settings pulled directly from circuit competition, including WTCC-level events, rather than a generic fast-road tune softened for comfort.

This φ55-body kit is the version built for MK6 Golf R cars running the modified rear-integrated mounting arrangement, with the electronic damping cancellation kit included so the factory DCC wiring is neutralised rather than left throwing faults. It’s aimed squarely at drivers doing serious track and time-attack sessions in the Golf R, where the standard adaptive dampers run out of range long before the tyres do.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Volkswagen GOLF R

With the Haldex system sending torque rearward under load, the MK6 Golf R needs a rear end that stays planted rather than one that pattern the front end into understeer. The Racing Spec kit’s damping range is set up to control that weight transfer through fast direction changes, keeping the rear axle loaded and the diff’s power delivery usable rather than wasted through wheelspin. Ride height drops with the coilover’s threaded body, lowering the centre of gravity and tightening the Golf R’s roll response through the kind of quick esses that expose a soft factory spring rate. Because the electronic damping cancellation kit removes the DCC system from the loop, the Racing Spec dampers run their own fixed, circuit-derived valving without the ECU trying to intervene. On track, that translates to a front end that turns in predictably lap after your first session, and a rear that stays composed when you get back on the throttle early out of a hairpin.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Racing Spec range specifically for circuit racing, drawing its damping settings from direct participation in touring car competition including WTCC. Rather than a single generic map, the range reflects lessons pulled from cars actually turning laps in anger, which is why the valving feels distinctly different from XYZ’s road-oriented lines. For cars carrying heavier modifications, such as those built to a near-factory racing specification or A-class competition build, XYZ can also produce custom-valved shock absorbers rather than the standard Racing Spec unit. That process starts with the owner supplying full detail on the car’s upgrades and the circuit it will run, letting XYZ tailor damper response to that specific combination rather than a one-size-fits-all track setting. For this MK6 Golf R application, the φ55-body construction and cancellation kit are built to work with the modified rear-integrated mount, so the kit installs without fighting the car’s existing DCC wiring loom.
