XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Subaru XV GT 4WD 2017-2026

Sealed-stage tarmac rally puts a very different load through a car than a track circuit ever will: compressions land mid-corner, crests unweight the outside wheels without warning, and the surface itself throws up potholes and camber changes a race track would never have. The XV GT’s raised ride height and 4WD driveline give it a head start on rough-surface stability, but the standard dampers aren’t built to keep that composure when the pace goes up. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically for that brief.

This isn’t a fast-road spring-and-shock upgrade dressed up in rally branding. The damping curve is set to absorb the jolt of a big compression – a mid-stage pothole or a badly cambered crest – without kicking the body sideways, so the XV keeps its line through the sort of surface changes that would unsettle a softer setup.

What this coilover does for your 2017-2026 Subaru XV GT 4WD

Fitted to the XV GT, the Tarmac Rally coilover’s main job is controlling body movement over uneven surfaces without sacrificing the tyre contact that a 4WD platform depends on for traction out of a corner. The damper is calibrated to soak up sharp compressions and suppress the secondary body shake that follows a big hit, which keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded rather than skipping across the surface. That translates directly into better traction under power on loose or broken tarmac, and a more predictable, planted feel through direction changes at speed – the stability XYZ describes as letting you experience proper handling rather than fighting the car. On a nose-heavy 4WD crossover platform like the XV, that combination of controlled compression and consistent contact patch is what keeps the car pointed where you aimed it, corner after corner.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is a damper built around one specific brief: sealed-stage tarmac rally, where the surface is broken, patched and cambered in ways a smooth circuit never is. XYZ Racing tuned the internals to deal with big, sudden compressions – the kind you get crossing a pothole or a mid-corner ridge – by absorbing the impact rather than transmitting it straight into the chassis, then quickly damping out the secondary shock that would otherwise unsettle the body. That control is what protects tyre traction on a loose or wet-tarmac surface, where every bit of contact patch matters. The valving and settings are drawn directly from XYZ’s own Tarmac Rally competition programme, carried over into a coilover you can run on the road or use to build a proper stage car. For the XV GT specifically, that means a damper tuned to work with the 4WD chassis’s inherent stability rather than against it, rather than a generic fast-road unit relabelled for rally use.

Fitment for the Subaru XV GT (2017-2026)

This coilover is built for the Subaru XV GT 4WD, chassis code SU21, covering model years 2017 to 2026. It’s designed around the XV’s factory 4WD suspension geometry, so no additional adaptor brackets or geometry corrections are needed for a standard XV GT.
