XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan PULSAR N14 GTIR 4WD 1990-1995

The N14 GTIR’s rally pedigree came from a chassis built to run flat-out over broken surfaces, and that’s exactly the brief for this Gravel Rally coilover. Sandstone, snow, silt, washboard – the SR20DET-powered 4WD platform was homologated for stages that punish a damper far harder than tarmac ever will, and the standard suspension geometry was never built to survive that abuse repeatedly.

This kit uses an inverted-tube design specifically to cope with the way loose surfaces load a shock unpredictably from multiple angles, paired with long-stroke travel and a long spring to soak up chassis vibration before it reaches the driver. For a Pulsar GTIR being built for gravel stage work rather than road use, that combination matters more than outright stiffness.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1995 Nissan Pulsar N14 GTIR 4WD

On loose surfaces, the biggest limiting factor isn’t grip – it’s how much wheel travel you can use before the chassis starts skipping over the terrain instead of following it. The extended stroke on this set lets the GTIR’s suspension keep the tyre in contact through compressions and off-camber ruts that would have a stock damper topping or bottoming out. Long springs work with that travel to absorb the constant low-frequency vibration coming through a rough stage, which keeps the chassis settled under acceleration out of a rutted corner rather than skittering sideways. Spring rates on this range were set using data from rally racing team testing, so the base tune is built around genuine competition loads rather than a generic road-going compromise. For the GTIR’s 4WD layout specifically, controlled wheel travel front and rear is what lets the drivetrain put power down through a gravel hairpin instead of one corner unloading and spinning up.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surface conditions are more aggressive and inconsistent than anything encountered in circuit racing – which makes the shock absorber arguably the single most stressed component on the car during a gravel event. The inverted-tube layout was chosen to handle the varying demands of sandstone, snow and silt without the internals suffering the same wear a conventional tube sees under repeated high-frequency impacts. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond a typical road or track set-up, giving the damper room to absorb chassis vibration and cope with sustained high-G loading through fast, bumpy sections and hard direction changes. Every spring rate offered in this range has been validated against real rally racing team data rather than bench-tested in isolation, so the settings reflect what actually holds up over a full stage rather than a single hot lap.

Fitment for the Nissan Pulsar N14 GTIR 4WD (1990-1995)

This kit is built for the N14-chassis Pulsar GTIR, the 4WD, SR20DET-powered turbo model produced from 1990 to 1995. Confirm your car matches the N14 GTIR 4WD specification rather than the naturally aspirated or 2WD N14 variants before ordering, as coilover geometry differs across the range.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
