XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Nissan PULSAR N14 GTIR 4WD 1990-1995

The Pulsar GTI-R’s four-wheel-drive hardware adds weight and complexity over the front-drive Pulsars it shares a shell with, and that extra driveline mass changes how the nose loads under braking and how the rear reacts when the centre diff starts sending torque backward. XYZ Racing’s Top Sport coilover is built around that reality rather than a generic hatchback setup: firmer damping and spring rates than a street-only kit, aimed at owners who take the GTI-R out for occasional track days but still need it to behave on the commute in between.

This is the middle ground in the range, sitting above a comfort-biased kit and below a dedicated race spring rate. On a homologation-special 4WD chassis like the N14, that middle ground matters, because you are managing driveline weight and rally-bred geometry rather than a simple front-driver.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1995 Nissan PULSAR N14 GTIR 4WD

Stepping up spring rate and damping force over the GTI-R’s factory settings tightens body control through direction changes, which matters on a car whose 4WD system already asks a lot of the front end under trail-braking. The firmer valving keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded more consistently over compressions and mid-corner bumps, so the traction advantage the 4WD system gives you on paper actually reaches the tarmac. On UK B-roads that means less of the pitch and heave you feel in a standard GTI-R over crests and dips; on a track day it means the chassis holds its line under power rather than squatting and pushing wide. Ride height is adjustable independently of that damping change, so you can correct the GTI-R’s factory stance without touching the spring rate you have chosen.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport kit increases damping by roughly 30 to 50 percent, or adds around 2 kg/mm to the spring rate, over XYZ Racing’s street-oriented setting – the idea being to soak up a rough surface without letting the body kick back at the driver. Big compressions and sharp-edged bumps get absorbed rather than passed straight into the chassis, which keeps the tyre planted and stops the car skipping sideways over mid-corner ripples. That control is what XYZ Racing built its own Top Sport track experience around, and it is why the kit is pitched at drivers who want genuine stability under hard cornering rather than a soft ride. It is a track day and aggressive-driving setup first, with enough range in the adjustment to still be usable on the road.

Fitment for the Nissan PULSAR N14 GTIR 4WD (1990-1995)

This kit is built for the Nissan Pulsar N14 GTI-R, chassis code NI22, across the full 1990 to 1995 production run, matched to the 4WD platform’s mounting points and geometry rather than a front-drive N14 equivalent.
