XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — Nissan PULSAR N14 GTIR 4WD 1990-1995

The N14 GTIR’s reason for existing was homologation, not comfort: Nissan built the turbocharged, four-wheel-drive Pulsar in the numbers Group A rallying demanded, and the factory struts were never asked to do much beyond get the car through type approval. Three decades on, the cars still doing hard laps or fast-road miles are running well past what that original hardware was specified for. The XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover replaces the ageing factory struts and springs with a fully height-adjustable, 36-way damping system built around fast-road and weekend track use.

On a short-wheelbase 4WD turbo car like the GTIR, body control under load and throttle change matters more than outright stiffness – get the damping wrong and the all-wheel-drive system’s ability to put power down through a corner is wasted. This kit lets you set compression and rebound independently of ride height, so you can firm up the front for turn-in without unsettling the rear axle that’s doing half the work of putting SR20DET torque to the road.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1995 Nissan Pulsar N14 GTIR 4WD

With 36 clicks of damping adjustment on hand, you can move between a setting that copes with UK B-roads and one that holds the car flat through a fast direction change on track, without swapping parts. Independent ride height adjustment lets you drop the car for a lower centre of gravity or hold factory height if ground clearance on speed bumps and drop kerbs matters more to you. Because the front and rear rates can be matched to the GTIR’s nose-heavy turbo four and driveline weight, you get more consistent grip out of the four-wheel-drive system through mid-corner load changes than the original struts allow after this much use. Bump absorption is markedly better than a tired, decades-old factory damper, which matters on a car most owners still drive to the circuit and home again afterwards.

About the Super Sport coilover

XYZ Racing’s Super Sport line was built to take the harshness out of a stiffer coilover setup without giving up adjustability. The 36-way damping adjustment covers a wide enough range that the same kit copes with rough B-roads one weekend and a track session the next, rather than forcing a choice between comfort and control. Ride height is independently adjustable from the lower spring perch, so stance and corner weighting can be set without touching the damping curve you’ve already settled on. It’s built as a daily-and-weekend-race product rather than a dedicated competition part, which is the right brief for a GTIR that’s more likely doing a track day than a rally stage in 2026. Construction and adjustment range are shared across the Super Sport catalogue, with the damping and height settings tuned per application to the vehicle’s weight and drivetrain layout.

Fitment for the Nissan Pulsar N14 GTIR 4WD (1990-1995)

This kit is specified for the Nissan Pulsar N14 GTIR 4WD, chassis code NI22, covering the 1990 to 1995 production run. It’s built specifically around the GTIR’s four-wheel-drive layout and turbocharged SR20DET running gear rather than the naturally aspirated, front-drive N14 variants sold alongside it, so check you’re ordering against the GTIR-specific listing rather than a standard Pulsar fitment.
