XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz GLB X247 4WD φ55 2019-2026

Sealed-stage tarmac events don’t forgive a chassis that can’t stay flat over crests and compressions taken at speed, and the GLB X247’s raised ride height and 4WD weight distribution make body control the first thing to go when the pace picks up. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically to keep this platform’s φ55 damper body settled through repeated big hits rather than just stiffened up and hoping for the best.

Where a fast-road coilover is tuned around comfort compromises, this kit is set from the outset for stage work: absorbing sharp edge hits without kicking the rear axle sideways, and keeping the tyre loaded through the kind of surface changes a closed-road tarmac rally throws up mid-corner.

What this coilover does for your 2019-2026 Mercedes Benz GLB X247 4WD Φ55

On a 4WD GLB pushed hard over broken tarmac, the biggest gains come from how the damper handles compression events you can’t see coming – a lip, a dip, a mid-corner ripple. The φ55 monotube-style body gives the shim stack more oil volume to work with, so a big hit doesn’t spike the damper’s internal pressure and send a jolt straight into the body shell. That matters directly for traction: every time the tyre skips off the road surface, you lose contact patch, and on a 4WD platform sending power to all four corners that’s grip you paid for and aren’t using. Settling the body faster after each impact keeps the tyre pressed into the tarmac through the next input, which on a stage means carrying more speed into the following corner rather than backing off to let the suspension catch up. The setup also reduces the amount of secondary shock reaching the cabin and subframe mounts, which over a full stage distance is the difference between a car that’s still composed at the finish and one that’s been beating itself up since the first junction.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper family specifically for sealed-stage tarmac rallying, where the surface is smoother than gravel but the average speeds and impact loads are considerably higher than fast road use. The valving is built to absorb the shock of hitting uneven pavement at pace – including the kind of larger, sharper hits that a rough stage surface throws up – without transmitting that energy straight into the chassis. That shock absorption is the mechanism behind the traction gain: suppressing body movement after an impact keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded rather than letting the wheel skip and unload. XYZ Racing states the settings on this range come directly from its own Tarmac Rally programme, rather than being adapted from a road or track-day base tune, which is why the damping character leans toward stage-speed impact control ahead of daily-driving comfort. The result is a chassis that holds its line and stays predictable as speed and surface roughness increase together, which is exactly the load case this event type generates lap after stage.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz GLB X247 4WD Φ55 (2019-2026)
