The E66-generation 7 Series carries a lot of car – a long-wheelbase V12 flagship built around comfort-biased factory geometry, not loose-surface control. Converting one onto a gravel stage means fighting the chassis’s natural inertia: high unsprung mass, a nose-heavy V12 up front, and standard suspension geometry tuned for motorway cruising rather than compression events on sandstone or snow-packed forest roads.
XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically to handle that mismatch. An inverted-tube shock body and a long-stroke, long-spring layout give the damper the travel to absorb repeated high-speed compressions without the fluid and seal punishment a road-biased kit would suffer stage after stage.
What this coilover does for your 2001-2008 Bmw 7 Series E66 12 CYL
Fitted to a 2001-2008 Bmw 7 Series E66 12 CYL, the extended stroke keeps the wheel loaded and the tyre in contact through the sort of mid-corner bumps and compressions a gravel stage throws up, rather than letting the big saloon’s mass top the damper out and skip. The long spring works with that stroke to control body movement over rutted surfaces without transmitting every impact straight into the cabin, which matters on a car this heavy. Inverted-tube construction keeps the working fluid better isolated from the debris, mud and grit a stage generates, so damping force stays consistent from the first corner to the last. Because the spring rates were set against real rally-team data rather than road-going assumptions, the front end resists diving under the V12’s weight when you’re braking into a compression, and the rear stays planted enough to put that torque down exiting one.
About the Gravel Rally coilover
XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surfaces – sandstone, snow, loose silt – are about as hostile as motorsport gets. The shock absorber carries more of the workload here than on a circuit car, so the design starts with an inverted-tube body that better protects the internals from the debris a gravel stage throws up. Stroke length and spring length are both extended well beyond a road or track kit, giving the damper room to soak up chassis vibration and absorb hard, high-speed hits from broken, bouncy surfaces without bottoming out. That extra travel also has to cope with extreme cornering loads, where lateral G-force loads the outside dampers hard through long, committed turns. Rather than working from theory, XYZ set the spring rate range against data gathered by its own rally racing team, so what’s on offer reflects what has actually held up across a rally season rather than a lab estimate.
Fitment for the Bmw 7 Series E66 12 CYL (2001-2008)
This kit is built for the Bmw 7 Series E66 12 CYL, chassis code BM53, across the 2001 to 2008 production run. Confirm your car sits within that build window before ordering – suspension geometry and mounting points on the E66 changed enough across its life that fitment is year-specific.

Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Front
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
Rear
AluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
