XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW 4 SERIES G22 (2WD/4WD) 4/6CYL 2020-2026

The BMW 4 Series G22’s long bonnet and forward-mounted four- and six-cylinder engines put real load through the front axle the moment a tarmac stage stops being smooth – a crest into a compression, a mid-corner ripple that a closed public road always seems to hide until you’re on it. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built for exactly that kind of surface: the broken, cambered, occasionally violent tarmac of a closed-road rally stage, not the manicured, known surface of a circuit.

Where a circuit set-up chases minimum roll on a flat, predictable track, this kit is tuned to keep the tyre in contact with a road that isn’t flat and isn’t known until you’re reading it at speed. For both 2WD and 4WD G22 cars, that means a damper built to absorb a hit rather than pass it straight into the chassis.

What this coilover does for your 2020-2026 BMW 4 Series G22

On a G22 running this kit, the biggest change is what happens the instant a wheel meets an edge it didn’t expect. The damper is set up to absorb the impact of an uneven road surface rather than let it kick back through the front axle – which matters on a chassis carrying this much bonnet and engine weight over the front wheels. Soaking up that jolt across a bigger bump also suppresses shock through the body shell, so the car stays settled through a rough section instead of pattering off-line. That control keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded more consistently, which is where the traction actually comes from on a surface with variable grip. The result on a 4- or 6-cylinder G22, whether 2WD or 4WD, is a car that holds its line through broken tarmac instead of skating over the top of it.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Tarmac Rally coilover specifically for sealed-stage rally use, where the road surface is rarely as clean as the recce notes suggest. The valving is set up to absorb the impact of uneven pavement and a harder hit across a larger bump without sending that energy straight into the body shell. That shock absorption is the mechanism behind the traction gain – a tyre kept in contact with the road under compression grips better than one that’s been unsettled by it. Vehicle stability is the stated aim, and it shows up as handling that stays consistent stage after stage rather than degrading as the surface gets rougher. The damping and spring settings come directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme, not a generic road or circuit base tune, so the bias throughout is toward stability on a demanding surface rather than outright low-speed comfort.
