XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES F30 4/6 CYL (excl. M-Technik. xDrive & EDC) (Modified Rear Integrated) 2011-2026

The F30-generation 3 Series sits low and reasonably flat for a road car, but drop it onto a sealed tarmac stage that’s been patched and resurfaced in sections rather than laid in one pass, and that composure gets tested hard. Quick direction changes load the outside dampers, mid-corner bumps arrive without warning, and a standard-fit spring and damper pairing simply wasn’t calibrated for that kind of input. The Tarmac Rally coilover exists for exactly this scenario.

This is a rear-wheel-drive F30 build – 4 or 6-cylinder, excluding the M-Technik, xDrive and EDC variants – running the modified rear-integrated setup XYZ Racing specify for this chassis. On a stage rather than a circuit, the priority shifts from outright lap time to keeping the car planted and predictable when the surface changes underneath it corner to corner, which is what this kit is tuned around.

What this coilover does for your 2011-2026 BMW 3 Series

Fitted to this F30, the kit’s job is absorbing the impact of an uneven road surface before it unsettles the body – big compressions from a broken patch of tarmac get soaked up at the damper rather than passed straight into the chassis. That control keeps the contact patch loaded more consistently through direction changes, which is where a rally-pace 3 Series actually finds its traction: not from more grip on paper, but from the tyre staying in contact with the road through a stage that a smooth circuit setup would skip over. Reduced body shock through mid-corner bumps also means less correction needed mid-stage, so the car holds its line where a road-biased setup would step out or bottom out. On the RWD 4/6-cylinder F30 this matters particularly at the rear, where the modified rear-integrated mounting keeps the geometry consistent as the suspension works through its travel.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line around one specific brief: absorbing the impact of uneven, sealed-stage road surfaces without losing the car’s composure over the bigger hits. The damping is set up to soak up sudden jolts from broken or patched sections of tarmac, taking the shock out of the chassis rather than letting it translate into body movement the driver has to catch. That control is aimed squarely at keeping the tyre loaded and in contact with the road through direction changes, which is where the traction gain actually comes from on a rally surface. The settings aren’t generic road-and-track compromise numbers – XYZ Racing has drawn them from its own tarmac rally programme, tuning the damper response around what a car actually does when it’s being driven at stage pace over a surface that isn’t smooth.
