XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

The Audi A3 Sportback 8V’s multi-link rear axle – reserved for the higher-output variants rather than the torsion-beam base cars – lets each rear wheel find its own line over broken ground, and that independence is exactly what a gravel-spec damper is built to use. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover for this 2012-2020 A3 Sportback is designed around that geometry: inverted-tube damper bodies, long stroke and long springs, sized to keep both rear wheels following the surface instead of skipping across it.

Running this A3 on loose surfaces is a different problem to a tarmac track day. A gravel stage throws sandstone, snow and silt at the same corner within a single run, and the suspension has to keep absorbing hits at speed rather than simply resisting body roll. That’s the brief this kit is built to answer.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 Sportback

The long-stroke, long-spring layout gives the multi-link rear more room to work before it tops or bottoms out over a rutted crest, which matters more here than outright stiffness. Chassis vibration transmitted up from a washboard gravel surface gets absorbed at the damper rather than passed straight into the body, so the car stays composed run after run instead of shaking itself loose. Through a fast gravel corner, where the rear axle is asked to bear serious G-force while still tracking a shifting surface, the extra travel keeps the tyre loaded and working instead of skittering. None of this is tuned for a smooth circuit – it’s set up for the A3 taking hits at speed on a stage, which is the point.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally line specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the road surface is the most punishing of any motorsport discipline the brand covers. The inverted-tube damper construction is the core of that approach – it’s better suited to shrugging off the side-loading and debris impact that a straight-tube design struggles with over sand, snow or silt in quick succession. Stroke length and spring length are both extended over a road or track-day coilover, giving the axle the travel to absorb chassis vibration and the hard compression events that come with attacking a bumpy stage at speed. XYZ’s rally racing team sets and validates every spring rate in this range before it reaches a customer car, so the numbers reflect actual stage use rather than a desk calculation.

Fitment for the Audi A3 Sportback (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the A3 Sportback 8V fitted with the multi-link rear suspension (chassis reference AU12-7), covering the 2012-2020 model years, in the modified rear-integrated configuration. Confirm your car has the multi-link rear rather than the torsion-beam setup before ordering, as the two axles take different rear hardware.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
