The 8V A3 Sportback’s multi-link rear axle is only fitted to the higher-output, quattro-equipped versions of this MQB-based hatchback, and that independent rear geometry is precisely what a car needs when the road surface disappears into loose gravel or packed snow. XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built around that reality: extended-travel dampers front and rear give the axles somewhere to go before a compression event on a rutted forest stage or a snow-banked hillclimb turns into a bottomed-out suspension and a stalled run.
This is a rally-specific unit rather than a circuit spring and damper set adapted for rough roads. It is sized for the repeated big-hit loading an A3 takes on loose surfaces, and for the mixed-terrain rallycross circuits where gravel, tarmac and kerbs all show up on the same lap.
What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3
Longer front and rear travel means the multi-link rear can keep the inside wheel loaded and the tyre in contact with the ground over compressions that would have a shorter-stroke coilover topping or bottoming out. The larger internal reservoir of suspension oil and nitrogen gas gives the damper more thermal mass to work with, so oil temperature stays under control through a long stage rather than fading as the shock heats up. With three external adjustment knobs, you can bias the setup between a snow-packed special that wants softer, more progressive compression and a rough gravel stage that wants firmer control of the extra wheel travel, without swapping hardware between events.
About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover
XYZ Racing developed this coilover specifically for rally and rallycross use rather than tarmac circuit driving. Both the front and rear dampers run longer stroke lengths than the road- and track-focused ranges in the XYZ line-up, which is what creates the extra buffer before the suspension runs out of travel on a rough stage. The increased volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas is the other half of that durability story: more fluid and gas means the shock can absorb sustained high-frequency hits without the oil overheating and the damper fading toward the end of a run. The three adjustment knobs use a small oil-hole metering design; on big compressions you may hear a faint noise as oil moves through that passage, which is a normal characteristic of this valving and not a fault. The unit is built to shrug off the bumps a tarmac-only circuit never has to deal with.
Fitment for the Audi A3 (2012-2020)
Fits Audi A3 Sportback 8V models built 2012 to 2020 with the multi-link rear suspension layout (chassis reference AU12-7), which XYZ Racing lists as fitted to quattro and higher-output Sportback variants rather than the torsion-beam-equipped base cars. Confirm your specific A3 Sportback has the independent multi-link rear axle before ordering, as the front strut and rear damper geometry are matched to that configuration.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Front
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
Rear
IronIRONIron upper mount — a heavy-duty housing built to take sustained load where a stronger top mount is required.
