XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

The multi-link rear axle fitted to this A3 Sportback 8V changes how the car reacts over a stage’s crests, compressions and off-camber sections compared with the torsion-beam cars further down the Audi range – there’s more independent wheel control to exploit, but also more geometry to manage when a big compression lands mid-corner. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover kit is built around that rear-end layout specifically, with a modified rear integration engineered to work with the multi-link subframe rather than a generic bolt-in adapter.

This is a sealed-stage tarmac set-up, not a fast-road or track-day compromise. Damping and spring rates are tuned for the repeated big hits, kerb strikes and mid-corner bumps a closed-road stage throws up, on a platform that’s already stiff by design and, on the 4WD variants sharing this chassis, carries real nose weight to control on turn-in.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 Sportback

On a stage littered with crests and compressions, the multi-link rear geometry on this Audi A3 Sportback keeps outside-rear traction working through a transition rather than skipping over it – but only if the damper controls the mass moving through that geometry. This kit is built to absorb the big, sharp-edged hits (pot holes, cattle grids, sudden camber changes) without spiking load through the chassis, so the car stays settled instead of getting deflected off line. Traction off tighter hairpins improves because the rear axle isn’t still recovering from the last compression when you’re back on the throttle. Ride height and corner weighting are adjustable through the threaded body, so you can set the platform for the stage surface rather than a generic road setting. Because the rear integration is engineered around the multi-link subframe rather than adapted from a torsion-beam kit, the geometry stays correct under compression instead of drifting into unwanted toe or camber change.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is XYZ Racing’s damper for closed-road, sealed-surface stages, where the tarmac itself is rarely smooth – patched sections, ridges and sudden dips are the norm rather than the exception. The valving is set to absorb a hard, sudden impact across a large bump without passing the full shock into the body shell, which keeps the tyre loaded against the road instead of skipping across it. That control is what stops the chassis pitching or bouncing after a hit, and it’s what actually keeps the tyre’s contact patch doing its job. The resulting stability is what lets a driver commit to a line at speed rather than backing off for an unknown surface change. XYZ set the base damping and spring specification for this range using data from its own tarmac rally programme, rather than adapting a circuit-day damper for stage use.

Fitment for the Audi A3 Sportback (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the Audi A3 Sportback 8V, fitment code AU12-7, covering 2012 to 2020 model years fitted with the rear multi-link suspension layout – not the torsion-beam cars in the same range. Confirm your car has that rear axle before ordering, since the modified rear integration in this kit is matched specifically to the multi-link subframe.
