XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

The A3 Sportback 8V with the multi-link rear axle carries its weight differently through a chicane than the torsion-beam cars sold alongside it, and that independent rear geometry is exactly what a Racing Spec setup is built to exploit. This isn’t the coilover for a car that spends its life on the school run – it’s for the 8V that’s booked in for its next track day and needs a chassis that stays flat when the front end is loaded hard into an apex.

XYZ Racing built this damper around direct feedback from WTCC competition, and that pedigree shows up in how the platform behaves rather than in a spec sheet claim. On the 8V’s 50mm strut architecture, the multi-link rear can be tuned independently of the front, so mid-corner rotation and traction off the exit don’t fight each other the way they do on simpler rear setups.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V

Fitted to this chassis, the Racing Spec kit sharpens the relationship between steering input and front-axle response, cutting the delay between turn-in and the car actually loading its outside tyre. The multi-link rear gets damping control matched to that front-end behaviour, so the back axle follows through a direction change instead of arriving late. Ride height drops into a range that lowers the centre of gravity without eating into strut travel on track kerbs, and body roll through fast direction changes is noticeably reduced compared with the factory setup. Because the rear geometry on this variant is independent rather than a beam axle, the coilover can control each rear corner separately – useful on the sort of bumpy circuit surfaces that unsettle a car with less sophisticated rear suspension.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec range sits at the top of XYZ Racing’s coilover line-up and its calibration comes directly from circuit competition rather than a road-going baseline turned up. Development work traces back to touring car racing, where damper behaviour was refined under repeated hard braking and sustained lateral load rather than a single hot lap. For 8V owners running genuinely aggressive builds – bigger brakes, wider tyres, aero – XYZ Racing also offers bespoke valving: send over the specifics of what’s been changed on the car and which circuits it’ll see, and a shock absorber can be built around that exact combination rather than a generic track setting. That custom-order route exists because a heavily modified A3 doesn’t behave like a stock one, and a damper calibrated for the standard car won’t necessarily suit it.

Fitment for the Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the 8V-generation A3 Sportback fitted with the 50mm-strut, multi-link rear suspension layout, covering the 2012 to 2020 production run, and is specified for the Modified Rr Integrated configuration of that rear axle. Confirm your car matches the multi-link rear axle spec before ordering, since the 8V range also includes torsion-beam variants that use a different kit.
