XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Toyota AVENSIS T22 1998-2002

The T22 Avensis earned its competition credentials on the national stages of the late 1990s – a front-wheel-drive saloon with the structural rigidity and suspension geometry to hold together when the road surface turned to gravel or packed snow. This Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover from XYZ Racing is built for exactly that environment: rally and rally cross use where the T22’s standard road-biased dampers run out of travel long before the stage ends.

Extended stroke front and rear is the headline change. On loose surfaces, suspension needs room to compress and recover repeatedly without hitting its limits, and the Avensis’s factory setup was never engineered for that kind of repeated, high-amplitude loading.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2002 Toyota AVENSIS T22

Greater travel addresses the core limitation of a road-spec T22 in competition: standard dampers reach their limit on the compressions and crests that define gravel and snow stages. More suspension throw keeps the front wheels in contact with the surface longer – and in a front-wheel-drive car where traction and steering share the same axle, maintaining that contact is directly tied to how much directional control remains under power.

Temperature management is equally important across longer stages. Increased suspension oil and nitrogen gas volume inside each damper resists the heat build-up that degrades damping performance after repeated high-load cycles. Three external adjustment knobs allow the damping character to be varied for conditions – firmer for compacted snow where the car loads cleanly, more compliant for loose gravel where rigidity causes the driven wheels to skip rather than bite.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow is an XYZ Racing competition damper designed primarily for rally and rally cross applications, where unpredictable surfaces demand a different set of engineering priorities than tarmac circuit work. Extended stroke front and rear creates the buffer distance needed when a gravel stage or rally cross circuit changes character mid-section. The expanded oil and nitrogen gas reserves address thermal fade – the performance drop that occurs when shock fluid runs hot after sustained, repeated high-load cycling across a lengthy competitive stage.

Three external knobs control damping response, using a small oil hole valving design. XYZ Racing note that under heavy compression loads, oil passing through this restricted passage can generate a small noise; this is a characteristic of the valving configuration rather than a fault, and expected in a competition application where the damper is being worked at the upper end of its intended load range. The T22’s MacPherson strut front architecture works directly with the extended travel envelope this damper provides.

Fitment for the Toyota AVENSIS T22 (1998-2002)

This coilover fits the Toyota Avensis T22 chassis across the 1998 to 2002 production span. The T22 platform covers saloon, hatchback, and estate body styles across the 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine range, all sharing the same front-wheel-drive suspension architecture. Confirm your chassis code matches T22 before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
