XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Toyota TERCEL 1995-2002

The Tercel left the factory as a featherweight economy subcompact, sprung soft for supermarket runs rather than apexes – and that combination of low kerb weight and lazily damped struts is exactly what the XYZ Racing Circuit Master coilover is built to exploit on a Toyota Tercel from 1995 to 2002. The Circuit Master is XYZ Racing’s sustained-lap circuit damper, set up for the kind of repeat-session track work where the chassis has to behave the same on the twentieth lap as it did on the second.

On a car this light, the limit on track was never straight-line muscle; it is how much body lean and front-end slop you can take out before the inside front tyre gives up. The Circuit Master goes straight at that problem, turning a soft FWD economy platform into something that actually holds a line.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 Toyota Tercel

Drop the ride height and the Tercel’s centre of gravity comes down with it, which is the single biggest gain on a tall, soft subcompact – body roll falls away and weight transfer slows down. With 9720 ways of adjustment across the three knobs, you can run a firm, flat platform for circuit sessions and still keep enough compliance to put the power down out of slow corners. Because this is a low-output, light car, lap time lives in corner speed and front-end bite, and tighter damping control lets you carry more mid-corner without the nose washing wide into understeer. You feel it most under trail-braking and on quick direction changes, where the standard struts run out of control long before the tyres do.

About the Circuit Master coilover

The Circuit Master sits at the competition end of the XYZ Racing range, alongside the Racing Spec, Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally builds, and it has been developed and run hard by XYZ Racing teams on international circuits rather than signed off on a bench. The headline is the breadth of tuning: 9720 individual adjustment combinations are reached through three separate knobs, so ride height, bump and rebound can each be set independently to suit the surface and the session. That three-knob layout uses a small oil-passage design, and it is worth knowing that when you hit a big kerb or bump the oil forces through that narrow passage and can make a faint noise – that is normal behaviour, not a fault. The whole damper is engineered around circuit use, where smooth track surfaces mean those sharp impacts are rare and the priority is repeatable, controlled damping under sustained load.
