XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Toyota TERCEL 1995-2002

The Tercel was built to a budget, not to a stage time – a light front-wheel-drive economy car with soft, comfort-biased damping that floats over bumps and washes into understeer the moment the road turns ugly. On a sealed rally stage that softness is the enemy. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the Toyota Tercel goes after exactly that, replacing OE float with controlled body movement and a front axle that stays planted.

This is the sealed-stage tarmac specification, set up from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme. It is aimed at the kind of broken, patched, kerb-lined surface a real stage throws at a light FWD car, where keeping the driven wheels in contact matters more than outright stiffness.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 Toyota Tercel

On a car as light as the Tercel, every bump unsettles the whole chassis, and the standard dampers let that movement run on long after the hit. The Tarmac Rally valving absorbs the impact of uneven pavement and damps the jolt of a big bump so the body settles quickly instead of pitching into the next corner. That keeps the front tyres loaded and working, which on a nose-led front-driver is the difference between drive out of a hairpin and wheelspin. You gain tighter control of pitch under braking, less roll on turn-in, and the stability to read a patchy surface through the steering rather than fighting it. Lowered ride height puts the narrow Tercel on a more usable stance for stage work.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally damper is built for one job: sealed-stage rallying, where the surface is paved but rarely smooth. The settings come straight from XYZ Racing’s tarmac rally experience, tuned to soak up broken pavement, patched repairs and the sharp jolt of a kerb or pothole without transmitting all of it into the shell. By absorbing those impacts rather than crashing through them, the damper keeps the tyre pressed to the road and builds the traction a light front-driver needs to put its power down out of slow corners. The priority is grip and composure over a rough sealed surface, not the rock-hard rate you would run on glass-smooth circuit asphalt. That bias is what separates a tarmac rally specification from a track coilover, and it is why the Tercel stays settled and predictable when the surface deteriorates mid-stage.
