XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S 2005-2011

The 997’s rear-engine layout concentrates more than 60% of total mass behind the rear axle – a weight distribution that gives the car its distinctive balance at the limit but demands precise damping to keep it honest under hard braking and mid-corner load shifts. Replacing the standard suspension on a Carrera-2 or Carrera-S with anything less than track-calibrated hardware means leaving that balance unrealised.

PASM-equipped S owners face a specific trade-off: the factory active damping is competent on the road, but it cannot be tuned to a specific circuit, a specific tyre compound, or a specific competition weight. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover is built for drivers who have passed that decision point and need a fixed, competition-calibrated setup they can work with.

What this coilover does for your 2005-2011 Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S

Rear-engine weight distribution makes the 997 unusually sensitive to spring rates and damper calibration at the rear – run too soft and the car promotes understeer as it loads up; too stiff and mid-corner traction disappears. The Racing Spec’s settings were derived from direct competition data, not conservative road-use targets, meaning the damper response reflects what the chassis needs at speed rather than what is acceptable in traffic. Ride height adjustment lets you reduce the 997’s nose-high factory stance, which directly improves aerodynamic balance at track speeds. For serious circuit use, repeatable braking stability – particularly across the long, late-brake zones that characterise most UK club circuits – is where a competition-grade damper earns its place on this chassis.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec damper is built for track and competition use, its calibration derived from XYZ Racing’s direct participation in motorsport events including the WTCC – settings that reflect what the hardware encountered under actual race conditions, not what passed in a development road test. This is not a road-biased kit with a track-day mode; the entire product is oriented toward circuit and time-attack applications. Where a build carries significant modifications – aggressive powertrain work, aerodynamic additions, or running at competition weight – custom shock absorber specifications are available. You supply the full list of upgraded parts and the circuits you intend to run, and XYZ Racing produces a damper specification matched to your car’s actual state. That bespoke route is reserved for vehicles approaching factory racing-car or A-class competition specification, where a standard off-the-shelf calibration would be a poor match for the dynamic demands.

Fitment for the Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S (2005-2011)

The Racing Spec coilover fits Porsche 997 Carrera-2 and Carrera-S variants, chassis code PO04, across the full 2005-2011 production run. Both the 997.1 (2005-2008) and the revised 997.2 (2009-2011) are covered; the two generations share the same core suspension architecture despite the mid-cycle refresh. Confirm your body variant and check whether your car is PASM-equipped before ordering.
